Capcom took the whole zombies everywhere cliche and made it into somthing fresh and new.

Dead Rising was released by Capcom a few years ago, but remains the excellent idea it became a few years ago. This is one of those rent them first and then decide games. I'll admit, Dead Rising isn't for everyone, but most everyone will like it. What amazes me is they took this idea of a cliche and made it something great. So try and give this game a shot.

Dead Rising is set in the Willamette Mall in Colorado. You play as Frank West, a freelance journalist who came to Willamette to get the scoop. Things go bad quickly as what appears to be many riots break out. You soon land on the mall and meet Carlito. He'll be important later. Once you get in the mall you realize that this town is filled with zombies. Soon you come across several civilians trapped in front of the door. They barricade the door so a massive zombie horde doesn't come in. Eventually the zombies come through the barricade and you must get back to the safe room. As you can see, this is pretty original material for a story.

The sound is great, but there really isn't suspense. The sound of a million zombies filling the mall keeps you on guard. Music for the Boss Fights is also wonderful. The actors do pretty well at portraying this apocalypse. There isn't the suspenseful music you would normally expect to hear, but it's fine because you never could be suspense. How would you have suspense in a place where empty areas are a rarity.

The combat is the best part (besides the iffy controls). The thing that makes this game so unique is that there is literally hundreds of weapons at your disposal. The mall still has it's merchandise, and any of it can be used for weapons. There is teddy bears, water guns, toy light sabers, chairs, tables, pots, barrels, pies, shotguns, machine guns, knives. The list just keeps going.

There isn't much to be said about the graphics, because they are just good. A few interactions here and there, but it's mostly just good.

My biggest complaint is the time frame. If you want to clear the story, you can't goof around much because you are timed 72 game hours.A game hour is about 5 minutes, so you have about 6 hours to complete the game. This might sound like more than enough time, but it really isn't. Also, certain missions can only be done during certain time periods, so if you don't make it in time, you might as well reload the game.

Oh, and speaking of saving, the saving in this game really fails. You only have one save slot, and you have to walk all the way to a save spot to save. There is only like 3 or 4 save spots in the game, so it is pretty dang tough. If you fail a mission, you sometimes might as well restart a new data.

All in All, Dead Rising is worth checking out. If you have any questions or comments, message me. I hope I convinced you to give this game a shot.
