Left 4 dead mixed with with classic arcade elements, a potent mix.

Gah!!! Another zombie game!! Is that a bad thing? Is is in a sort of way. These days all zombie games are the same; dump you in a ruined city, fight through hundreds of undead, and hope you dont get surrounded. Dead Nation, however, has given me some entertainment, despite the horridly overused theme.

Dead Nation provides some of the unique elements found in another popular zombie game, Left 4 Dead, by adding unique mutants to the fray. The almost copyrighted names (Boomer-Bombie) with similar attacks and threats adds a little variety to the masses of undead hordes. Also, safe zones, similar to to L4D, act as cheakpoints. But unlike the L4D, an upgrade station is also present. Here, you can buy, upgrade, and swtich in armor you have bought using money from the dead or in cars and boxes. Mixing L4D gamplay with some new twist make it suprisingly interesting and fun.

The graphics were the most suprising. Despite the tiny download, the graphics were well done. The lighting and small trash objects bouncing around as you hit them adds a sense of darkness and fear. The groans of the zombies adds to the atmosphere. For the small download, it packs an amazing experience.

The best part is the online play. Go around the world and see how your foreign allies are going, showing a kill count and how far they are to cleaning their nations. If you want, play the campaign with a friend and blast away the hordes together. It is amazing experience.

All in all it is a fairly good game. The story is unoriginal and lacking, but the rest of it is excellent. If you have a Welcome Back! Download available, it is free, a worthy investment.
