Daxter should be in any PSP owner's library, whether you're a fan of the reknowned series or not!

User Rating: 9 | Daxter PSP
STORY: You are Daxter, Jak's sidekick. Jak has been captured and taken to a prison in Haven City. Daxter needs to save him, but instead of doing it right away, he is recruited by a man named Osmo who owns an exterminator shop in Haven City. You will go around to various places exterminating bugs, and towards the end of the game, try to rescue Jak. The game lasted about 15 or so hours for me, so its a long, fun game.

GRAPHICS: Abosolutely gorgeous. Certain areas like Breezy Valley and the Log Mill are just beautiful to look at. Virbrant colors and sharp textures make this game look fantastic. Character models and animations are also very nice.

GAMEPLAY: The gameplay is very simple and easy to learn. You platform and kill bugs. You can use a hover nozzle to get over large gaps quickly and safely. There aren't too many combos, but new moves can be learned from completing dream levels. Dream levels are Daxter's heroic fantasies that he wishes he could accomplish. When you feel like it, you can go to the shop and rest on the bed. Choose a level and play. These levels are pretty fun and fast paced. You have to be quick and precise because you will need to match the buttons that come on screen. The game itself is not linear, its very open and Haven City is explorable. There are lots of red eggs to collect, which unlock new dream levels. Vehicle segments are also fun and full of action. Two minor problems I had are the sometimes clunky camera angles and the slowdown in some areas. When you enter Haven City or enter a graphically nice place such as Emerald Isle or Breezy Valley, you will get some slowdown. It only lasts a few seconds, but continues if you ride your scooter around the city. Finally is Bug Combat. In the game, you will come across cages that hold bugs as well as colored vials. The cages are bugs that can be used in Bug Combat, while the vials grant special abilities to the bugs, such as increased health or speed. I didn't enjoy bug combat, I think it should've have been left out.

AUDIO/SOUNDTRACK: Very nice, catchy tunes in the levels that I won't forget. Voiceacting is also great.

ONLINE: There is online bug combat, but, considering this game came out in 2006, I assume nobody plays it anymore.

VALUE: Must-Have

OVERALL:

Pros: Fantastic visuals, varied and beautiful environments, solid combat, good platforming, catchy tunes, great vehicle segments.
Cons: Some slowdown in certain areas, occasionally poor camera angles
