A game that defies the popular "game play over graphics statement".

User Rating: 8 | Crysis PC
Crysis is a good game. However it is not all it is hyped up to be.

Really what makes this game stand out is the graphics. If you are running the graphics maxed and even more so with custom configuration mods that make the game look even better, it literally looks like a CGI video game.

Just for this matter it makes it a lot of fun to play because you literally feel you are on a tropical island, you can imagine being there.

With the addition of great physics and sand-boxed based game play also adds to the realism. How ever I must say that the physics on the enemies when they die and go rag doll it really takes away from the game, it looks very stiff and clunky in my opinion, often times enemies arms or legs will be frozen in mid air. Other than that physics are top notch.

The sounds also add to the realism, very good sound effects here as well.

However the game play is not as great as you would expect. It seems very linear, in reality it actually is not that much different from regular shooters, but some aspect of it really makes it feel almost, boring. I'm sorry I still can't put my thumb on what it is about the game play but its just so generic, go here kill some guys then go over there and kill more. I think perhaps part of it is they basically layout a huge level with enemies scattered through out and its basically you running through the map kill them all. Now usually a nice huge sand boxed typed map would be great but I think it kind of back fired in this case. I think that they either should of made an open world map or a structured mission like most shooters.

Besides that the game-play is just a standard shooter, you have camo that mixes in some stealth element, speed which is almost useless, and strength which I rarely use, and armour which is what I found myself using 90 percent of the time. Another note on the game-play is that it is quite difficult compared to other shooters, unless you are on easy difficulty you are going to have to constantly take cover and plan out your attacks and what not. This aspect does boost the game-play but I found the generic map layout design overpowered this aspect for me.

The online is okay. I never really liked it that much, I mean it's just very standard, besides a conquest mode which is alright I guess. It's not anything special though.

So basically I found it fun to have the graphics simulate such a realistic environment, which is what I really enjoy about this game. If you don't have the computer power to run it at at least medium-high graphics I recommend not picking this up. Without the power of the graphics I'd say this game is a 7/10 at most. Overall if you love games with good graphics and decent game play then you will probably like this, if you don't care about graphics then I don't think this game is for you.
