I think I would have preferred "Crysis 3: The Movie"

Oh, Crysis, where did it all go wrong?

Crysis 3 has led the series up the path trodden by so many FPSs these day - linear, easy and uninspired.

Crytek have taken the approach that so many other developers have - that the player is a nuisance who should be doing things their way. Need to stalk a patrol and listen in on their conversation? Well, sit back and let the game do that. Have to pilot your way out of apocalyptic danger? This is no time to let the player get involved! Too often a potentially interesting element of gameplay simply doesn't happen as the game tries to show off in some way. Perhaps what makes it so galling is that the original Crysis did give you control during sections like that.

It steals linear buggy sections from Half Life 2 and a giant laser beam from Mass Effect 3 (Granted, by no means original in that, either). Crytek has become lazy and just tick boxes on their way through the campaign. Even the music, a highlight of Crysis 2 is largely forgettable.

Crysis 3 is definitely not open world, open area, maybe...but this feels more restrictive than Crysis 2. You might have a couple of approaches, but you can always see the massive walls that pin you into the level and the arena as a whole. While you move out of corridors in the early game, they're just replaced with wider corridors with sky.

This game is playable, and worth getting when it's cheap. But if you want an excellent game that follows in the footsteps of the original Crysis, go play Far Cry 3. There's a game that has an open world and the freedom to play how you want that Crysis offered...Crysis 3 certainly isn't it.
