A half-decent shooter ruined by poor Windows support, bugs and crashes.

User Rating: 6.5 | Crysis 2 PC
As pretty as the original Crysis was, I always felt the gameplay was lacking. Enemies darted around too quickly, making it difficult to get a clear shot, and often took several shots to kill, reducing the game to manic button mashing at times.

Crysis 2 carries many of the same gameplay flaws and still feels quite manic. Worse still, enemy AI seems off somehow. You can try sneaking around and hiding, but they always detect you, unless you have your cloak enabled. So if (like me) you're into playing games with a stealth strategy, sneaking between cover and going for head shots, this game can get very frustrating!

As with the original Crysis the armour and gun upgrades keep the player interested, adding variation and novelty value to the game. This is what sets it apart from other popular first person shooters and can open up many different ways of approaching the game.

The graphics are very impressive as one would expect, with realistic and detailed city scapes that crumble around you. The physics are superb too, allowing you to smash your surroundings, kick over furniture and cars, pick up and throw almost any loose items. It's just a shame you can't shoot or interact with wandering civilians.I've seen many reviews that complain about lack of Direct 11 support, and though that would be a nice bonus, this game still looks well ahead of many PC games of today.

The big failure of this game, however, is in its lack of Windows support. It is quite clearly a half-baked console port and very little time has gone into play testing the game it seems. I found the game crashing to desktop on regular intervals, and when looking for solutions I found that many players (especially Windows 7 users) are experiencing the same issues, and a whole series of bugs. Technical support for this game is very poor with customer services simply cutting and pasting generic solutions, such as updating drivers or bios - none of which work and some of which could cause inexperienced users to damage their PC. Even the update failed to fix these issues.

This is unacceptable and nobody should be expected to pay for a broken product. Until EA offer a working update or solution, I would suggest holding back on buying this game...or alternatively, try it, then return it for a refund if it doesn't work.
