Finally, something truly intriguing for my PSP. If I could only use one word to describe Crush it would be: Refreshing!

Contrary to popular belief, the PSP does have some decent games (see my reviews for Lumines, Lumines 2 and Daxter.) But there has been very little in the innovation department. In swings Crush, to save the day. Crush is a 2/3D platform puzzle game. Just think of it as Super Paper Mario with the RPG elements replaced by puzzle gameplay. You are Danny a dude who can't sleep. He visits Dr. Reubens, a man with a machine called Crush that allows Danny to manipulate his thoughts into puzzle form to try and find the root of the insomnia.

By collecting Marbles, Puzzle pieces and trophies, Danny slowly puts the pieces together and learns why he can't sleep. The story is enough to sustain any regular game, so it more that effectively covers this puzzle adventure. The game play is solid, with some flaws, but its very easy to overlook its problems.

Danny navigates by walking, jumping and Crushing. Crushing, turns the 3D world into a 2D world and vise-versa. Crushing in the levels allows Danny to access areas of the levels that previously wouldn't be possible. Crushing is what make Crush great. It forces the player to think abstractly and plan their actions several moves in advance.

As previously stated Danny's kinda clumsy and is sometimes hard to maneuver exactly where you want him to go, but Crush is very forgiving and doesn't implement a time limit on the levels. This gives the player an endless amount of time to figure out the puzzles. Some of which you may need a long to to figure out, due to the large amount of trial and error involved in them.

The music in Crush is fantastic. Even my wife said, "What are you playing? Because that music is awesome!" She was right, the Tim Burton-esq soundtrack fits the sometimes creepy level design. The visuals aren't great but, graphics play a very small part in the game.

If you are looking for a solid thinker's game and are prepared for a nice challenge, then pick up Crush and give your brain a workout.
