Oh, what could have been...

User Rating: 6.5 | Crimson Gem Saga PSP
Crimson Gem Saga starts off as a breath of fresh air in our modern RPG market. Starting off with quirky characters and funny dialogue, the game hits the ground running and gets off to a great start.

Moving along though, it seems that the game really burns out. The battles grow tedious largely in part due to the large amount of MP needed to actually take out enemies. The special skills take a large amount of SP to purchase, and that doesn't really become a reasonable task until the end of the game. The story chugs along and doesn't ever become anything stellar, and then the finish of the game is absolutely unacceptable.

The ending of Crimson Gem Saga might be the biggest ripoff/letdown I have ever experienced. The end of the game alone actually made me go from thinking the game was decent to actually disliking the game. It was almost like a slap in the face for all the hard work you put in.

Anyway, since we've covered the two most important parts of an RPG: Story and Combat system, we can move onto the other aspects.

The graphics are nice and crisp, and the music suits the game nicely. Dialogue can raise a chuckle every now and then as well. Backtracking and crawling through obnoxious dungeons can start to take its toll on the player, but for people who like excessive combat and dungeon crawling this will be music to your ears.

Take a shot at CGS if you dare. You might be pleased, or you might be pissed.
