The gameplay, story and music are all simple but fun at its best.

User Rating: 7.5 | Crash Bandicoot (Platinum) PS
Crash Bandicoot on the original Playstation wasn't exactly what you'd call "well received by critics." It didn't deliver a whole lot of redefinition, but it certainly delivered a whole lot of fun. Many people were hurt by Gamespot's score, a 6.0, but it didn't discourage anyone on just having plain fun which is what this game essentially is.

The plot goes as a scientist called Neo Cortex wants to... well he wants to be bad. Take over the world; enslave everyone, whatever you can think of. He mutated Crash into a large being, who sets off on this random and strange journey to foil Cortex's plans.

Graphics aren't usually the main aspect of a game, and the graphics are definitely not the best. Since it's a very cartoony game, the graphics don't suffer too much because you wouldn't really care; you would be too caught up in the fun you're having and all the simple ideas that help you to forget about the sort of things that are happening in more complicated games

The main character is, obviously, Crash - a small bandicoot who stands on his hind legs, that can't talk, and likes to spin. He could be known as a stereotype cute and cuddly animal, or he could be known as a lethal dangerous carnivore (which he's most definitely not). He was once a small and harmless animal until Cortex conducted an experiment on him, making him a larger and with a more human-like structure.

This is a platform game with a small amount of action. Think Mario gone 3D. The bosses are spread out at the end of each level, and they don't exactly require a huge amount of strategy to defeat. The whole game takes place over one island, as Crash moves to area to area searching for Cortex. Linear is the way of the game, with always one straight path.

Music, it sure helps the innovation of a game. Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, they all had great and memorable music. It's very childish, and very simple, yet fairly entertaining and a great beat that goes well with the gameplay. If it were some sort of complex FPS RPG then the music would definitely not be welcome, but since it matches the core game of Crash, then it is very welcome.

It's not very long, but that in a way adds to the replay value. Rather then having a long and dreary game that took days upon days to finish, having a quick and entertaining game that only takes hours to complete would be ideal in some fashions. You could come up sometime later and simply pick it up and play it and just have a blast with it, without having to worry about what items to equip, what character you should level up first, and all those other elements in outstanding games.

Verdict:

It's easy to say the graphics are the worst part of the game; but since the graphics aren't very bad I can definitely recommend this to you. The gameplay, story and music are all simple but fun at its best.
