No XBox live means a graphical reworking of a 10 year old game for 40 quid

I don't have XBox live. I *do* have a 2Mb/sec broadband internet connection, but I've just never had the urge to connect my XBox to it. That's not true: I've had the urge, I've just never acted on the urge. So the urge was never huge. I've lost my thread... I don't have XBox live, because I've never gleaned much pleasure from being beaten by 12 year olds from Atlanta. Don't get me wrong, I don't shy away from a challenge, but I like the poor sucker who gets beaten to be in the same room as me so I can dance my special victory dance infront of him. So the Live portion of Conker passes me by completely, so I'll not comment on it. So, Conker Reloaded. It's a graphical reworking of a swansong game for teh N64. So it's nearly 10 years old. And it really, really shows. I never played the origina l on the N64, but I was told that it was really quite cutting edge. There was swearing in it. Well, there was bleeped out swearing in it. But, if you finish the game the bleeping goes away. But that's not the only reason to play it - it's cutting edge stuff. Fast foward the best part of a decade. Platform shooters. Jak and Daxter. Ratchet and Clank. They are the prefects in the class. Conker? Conker is the old prefect who comes back as a teacher and wants to hang out with the 6th formers, reliving his youth. But time has passed poor Conker by, and what was cool in the 90's is just sooooooooo last millenium in the naughties (Man). So the rubbish camera - OK back then, inexcusable now. The rather harsh penalties for hitting an enemy - challenge back then, irritating now. All the baddies are destroyed by the same hit, run away, hit, run away, hit, run away patterm - very irritating. And there's no indication of what to do next. And falling from any kind of height kills you. And there's never any health bonuses anywhere. And you can't skip past the cutscenes. But, it's pretty, there's no doubt about that. So - a great game of yesteryear, dolled up all pretty for a new generation. But while conker is desperately trying to impress the new kids with the wonder of mini-discs (You can re-record them you know), all the kids are setting up their own pod-casts on-line. Yesterday's news.
