The Minimalist shooter returns.

User Rating: 6.5 | Conduit 2 WII
In 2009, High Voltage Software debuted The Conduit on the Wii, and it met to mixed critical reception. Amongst the many complaints were linear level design, terrible art direction, clichéd story, and the notoriously bad AI. The online multiplayer was perhaps the strongest aspect of the original, but that was ruined by Hackers within days of the game's release. High Voltage promised to take into account any positive critiques, and deliver a much better sequel.
However, despite what has been said by the developer, the sequel is just barely superior to the original. John St. John, the voice of Duke Nukem, has replaced Mark Sheppard as the voice of Michael Ford. Kevin Sorbo fans will be disappointed too, as the voice of Prometheus has been changed as well. It would be thought that more personality would be added with St. John, but I found myself laughing at the game, rather than with it. Mr. Ford's voice acting is mostly dribble, and I hated how smug Prometheus was this time around. The AI is awful, though this time around, they are not quite so suicidal. Instead they demonstrate more of a survival instinct, though they lack the finesse portrayed in other shooters. There are a few boss fights sprinkled in between levels, but they fail to be as thrilling as you would think they would be.
All of the intense customization from the original game has returned. Customization is pretty cool, and the in-game store does add a lot to the replay value. And from what I can tell, High Voltage has fixed the problem with hackers on Conduit 2. But the online component of the game does not really stand out from what I have seen with shooters on other systems. The action is good, but most of the aspects in the multiplayer are standard and minimal in most FPS's now.
Overall I was disappointed, and found myself sending it back to Gamefly in no time at all. High Voltage seems to put passion into what they do, but somehow they managed to miss their mark. If you were a fan of the original, then you might like this. But, if you own any other system, I would suggest simply skipping this game. Let's hope that High Voltage gets it right in Conduit 3...
