So many memories. A look back at one of the games that changed my life.

User Rating: 7 | Commander Keen Episode I: Marooned on Mars PC
This game has so many memories for me. When i was a kid i never played computer games, the computer was really my dads and at 8 i didn't really know how to use MS DOS. But every so often my dad would let me play this and the MS DOS version of Sim City on it. Now im not going to lie to you, this game is terrible. The gameplay is basic platforming with very innovations. The game involves you moving through a simple map where you select levels to play. Once in a level there is some basic platforming and a little puzzle to be had. The game has nice and easy controls and i remember always being able to easily keep control. The graphics in this game are simple by todays standard but back when i played this i was impressed. The levels are well designed with lots of traps and nice features and the enemies were well drawn and funny however that jumping bear thing still scares me absolutly sh!tless. The sound is basic at best with the best effect being the noise of your laser firing.

The story is also a basic affair but as a kid it was enough to keep me going and not just give up.

Overall, Commander Keen is a poor game and barely deserves a 4.0 however with so many memories and great times with this game i still enjoy playing it every so often just to bring back those days gone by. If you get the chance to try this game then give it a try but if like me you grew up on it then try and fine a copy and relive the good old days. I can't gurantee you will like it and i won't recommend but i just know i love it and have a lot to thank it for.
