Great game, very nice surprise.

User Rating: 8.9 | Cold Winter PS2
I bought this after reading Gamespot's review of the game. I had just finished Metal Gear Solid 3 and was looking for another game, with a story perhaps similar in genre to MGS3. I hadn't ever paid any attention to Cold Winter before. Seemed like one of those games that sneaks in under the radar so to speak. I came into the game not knowing much about it, and came out pleasantly surprised. My first kill in the game was the Chinese guard sitting in his chair on the first level. It was a headshot with a silenced pistol. Seeing the splash of blood and the guy fall out of the chair had me hooked. After that the game was hard to turn off. The cut scenes are interesting, and the voice acting isn't bad at all. The gameplay is pretty fun and reminds me a lot of Goldeneye from the N64. The game keeps things pretty much in the realm of realism. I can't remember seeing anything that was too over the top or seemed too out of place. It's a lot less over the top than the last few James Bond movies. This is a must have FPS, especially for people who want a story along with their shooting. Highly recommended.

Graphics: These range from excellent to mediocre. Overall I thought they were good for a PS2 game.

Sound: Pretty good too. Weapons sound fine, and soldiers yell and talk. Perhaps they could have added more to the things soldiers say in combat, but that's not too important. The voice acting is pretty good, and the game isn't afraid to use the "F-word". If you haven't played this already, it would make a fine "last hurrah" for PS2 shooters before the next gen FPS's start arriving for PS3. Buy it.
