A Shooter That Could Exist At Any Point In The Past Decade

CA:C is just not a very fun or interesting game. Well, to be fair if you are a very new gamer, or new to the FPS genre I doubt you'll find anything wrong with it. If however, you are an experienced gamer who has played from Wolfenstein to the present, games like CA:C just boggle the mind. When someone says that a game is a straight shooter, this is exactly what they had in mind. Gloriously unadorned, the only mode and meaning to CA:C is 1.) Point.
2.) Shoot.
3.) Repeat.

The lack of a compelling narrative or even a clever weapon or gadget (puzzles are so far from being relevant here I won't bring them up) is GLARING in a modern shooter. In a genre which craves constant innovation or absolute polish (Bioshock on one hand and Halo 3 on the other), CA:C is just... there.

The graphics are average, the sound is is a little below average, and the gameplay works, but it is so bland and useless to anyone who has played more than a handful for shooters that it SHOULD be docked on points for its banality. The whole thing seems like the devs looked at Metroid, Halo, and maybe even Doom and took the superficial "not fun" elements from those games to construct CA:C. Lets be honest... it would have to be one hell of a shooter to make you want to play it on a portable to begin with, and this is hardly something to go to the well for. It's actually a little mind boggling that this game was released in the same timeframe as Halo 3. The bottom line is that everything that isn't old and boring, while technically functional, is boring as HELL. There are tons of good PSP games, but this isn't one of them.
