Arguably worth the ridiculously cheap price I paid for it, yet somehow I still can't wholeheartedly recommend it.

User Rating: 5 | Clive Barker's Jericho (Limited Edition) X360
Clive Barker has written some pretty... no, disgusting short stories, screenplays and what-have-you; Jericho is no exception. I would have to say the saddest thing about this game is the overall lack of foresight regarding level design. Normally, I wouldn't harp on about a dark game, but when it's constant claustrophobia and a painful annoyance throughout, you just want to scream. Oh, and could anyone tell me why they would make your flashlight constantly turn off despite the fact that you have unlimited power to it?! I'm really torn between two extremes when it comes to thinking about this game. On one hand, you have a pretty interesting story, decent graphics and moderately interesting gameplay - but wait for it... then you have oppressively dark, tight and confining levels, repetitive enemies almost from the beginning to the end, sub-par voice acting and finally - something that really destroys any sense of fun you would expect from a game like this - a lack of horror. Yes, not scary. No, it sure as hell isn't. I'm a wuss when it comes to horror games (I still think I haven't been able to finish Resident Evil 0) and this game was a psychological breeze. Ugh, but the story had so much potential to be truly epic! The gore and the sadomasochism was just delightful and really made me remember Barker films like the first two Hellraisers, and even Lord of Illusions at times. I can only really justify this all in my head by thinking that they took Barker's story without talking to him about how to go about bringing the real shocks and thrills onto a graphic translation. But hey, the one thing I cannot deny: I got this game for 5 bucks brand new at Best Buy - but maybe they ripped me off...
