Monte Cristo has managed to out do Sim City by leaps and bounds.

User Rating: 9.5 | Cities XL PC
Previous to Cities XL, I had though the city building genre to be dead and gone. However, Cities XL has breathed a breath of innovative new life into the genre.

The reasoning behind my conclusion is as follows:

1. When you build large cities, unlike Sim City, it seems to be significant, you gain a sense of accomplishment, and unlike Sim City, you cn maintain a city without growing it, and it will not automatically go into an inevitable spending deficit like in Sim City.

2. City design is not based solely on 90 degree angles. Instead, you have the option to make geographically suitable city layouts.

3. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LAY WATER PIPES ALL OVER THE CITY

4. The game lets you know who is not happy and why they are not happy. While Sim city has the pointless and continual "news releases"

Good game ladies.
