I played the old Carriers at War many years ago late into the evening. I did this one, too--for a little while. By streamlining the game mechanics, some of the excitement of the original has been lost. True, the updated graphics (which still are merely functional, but are light years ahead of the older version) are nice, but the "mental picture" is what these games are all about anyway. The game doesn't ship with very many scenarios, either. The highlights of the pacific war are covered, however--Pearl Harbor, Midway, Guadalcanal, etc. Bottom line--buy the old version. It's more fun, but not as slick looking.
