One of the best shooters of this generation & another masterpiece from Infinity Ward.

User Rating: 9.5 | Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare PS3
As most gamers know by now, the development company Infinity Ward can make a first-person shooter. They made the first two excellent 'Call Of Duty' games, which were huge successes both critically and commercially. Then the publishing company, Activision, got the wonderful idea (yes, that is sarcasm) to come out with a 'Call Of Duty' game annually no matter what. So in between Infinity Ward's games, they handed the reigns over to Treyarch. Rather than actually coming up with an original idea of their own, Treyarch decided to head back to the WWII setting for 'Call Of Duty 3' (COD3).

'COD3' was a huge financial success, but received some mixed reviews. In my opinion, 'COD3' was a disasterous mess. Not only was the game a blatent rip off of the excellent 'Call Of Duty 2', it was actually worse in many areas. It was glitchy game that had all sorts of problems. Unfortunately, I was in the minority with that opinion and people still snatched the game up like crazy. Even the biggest 'COD3' supporters had to admit that they were waiting for the next Infinity Ward developed 'COD' game and 'Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare' (COD4) was released with a lot of hype surrounding it.

Of course, Infinity Ward was up to the challenge. Rather than just rehashing the same old WWII setting, 'COD4' brought the series into modern times. It was a refreshing change and proved to be a huge success. 'Modern Warfare' is a masterpiece in the FPS genre. Not only did it have a very fun & exciting single-player campaign, but it revolutionized the way we play FPS' online.

Some people will complain that the single-player campaign is too short. Yes I do wish it was longer, but that's only because it's so much fun. It will take a seasoned gamer around eight hours to finish, but it's a jam-packed eight hours. The game is extremely cinematic and has many "WTF" moments that will make your jaw drop. Of course, it helps that the game looks gorgeous & sounds fantastic. Sure the storyline involving terrorists isn't revolutionary in any way, but the way that story is told is very compeling and draws you in. Overall, I had a lot of fun playing through the campaign & would recommend it to anyone who loves FPS'.

When you add in the extremely popular online multiplayer, you have a game that changed the FPS genre forever. And other than a few annoyances (such as respawning enemies until you move past some invisible checkpoint in the level and a sometimes predictable, convoluted storyline), this game is almost perfect. There are just so many trademark moments here which I will not spoil in this review for people who haven't played it yet, but you will know what I mean when you get to them. If you are a fan of FPS in any way, I highly recommend purchasing this game. If you were disappointed with 'COD3', don't have those same worries about this game. Instead of the hacks at Treyarch, Infinity Ward is back to show them how it's done. This is a must-have game for any gamer with a PS3.
