Simple, addictive and absolutely adorable.

User Rating: 8.9 | Bubble Bobble NES
I've owned Bubble bobble for as long as I can remember, but when I was about the age of ten my NES broke down and just wouldn't work. Yesterday, I finally got the old grey box up and running again, so I thought it was a good time to review one of my favorite games of all time. Just like most NES games that aren't totally worthless, bubble and bobble is all about the gameplay. It's pretty basic actually, you play as a green little dinosaur named Bub (or as his blue friend Bob) and your mission is to rescue your girlfriend form a big mean wizard who loves to throw bottles at stuff. In order to do this, you must eliminate different enemies by trapping them inside and then bursting those bubbles which will turn those baddies into fruits and vegetables. After destroying every enemy on the current level you will automatically advance to the next one. There are 100 levels in total. A big part of Bubble Bobble is it's multiplayer. In the multiplayer mode, player1 gets to play as Bub (the green dinosaur) and player2 will play as Bob (the blue one). The multiplayer mode is basicly the same as the single-player mode, but it's a bit easier since there are two dinosaurs trying to shred those enemies, and some levels that require you to bounce on your bubbles will be much easier to complete as your friend can blow tons of bubbles that you can use to reach those enemies above you. Even though the multiplayer mode is co-operative at the core, it still becomes a little comptetitive as you will try to get those fruits before your friend does, so that you will get more points than him (getting enough points gets you another life). The graphics are nothing special, though very colorful and cheery, but the music will get stuck inside your head until you can't do anything else than just loving it. To wrap things up, Bubble Bobble is a classical game that apparently isn't quite as popular in the US as it is over here in Europe and Japan and if you get a chance to get it, do so. You won't regret it.
