At first when I tried Breath Of Fire 2, it seemed to be a bit stupid and repulsive as a game. I gave it a shot and went on with the story. I was kinda surprised, when I got inside the thing...

Oh right, Breath Of Fire 2 represents the familiar and safe genre of RPG's of SNES. It's not one of the best, but ti's still very playable. The main character is Ryu, the destined child and a warrior that possesses the power of the dragons. He and his sister are the only ones of this kind that still are alive. There are some pretty unusual character selections like Jean the Frog Prince, Bow the dog-faced Ranger and Rand the gigantic dude from the rural areas, who has a head of a horse I think. Also you can acquire a monkey called Sten. Hmm, I wonder if the developers had some excessive drinking while designing the characters for the game, since I just find some of them pretty stupid. The other characters are rather normal.

Every RPG has to have a carrying story, and so has Breath Of Fire 2, sort of. You see, the monsters have started to wander through-out the lands of the living, which is caused byy something that has weakened the seal in back-water town called Gate. This same town happens to be the home town of Ryu as well. Intriguing? So, Ryu apparently has to do something about the rising evil, which is to kill them permanently, since Ryu is the only one capable of doing it because of his dragonish powers. Behold!

Talking about the graphics of Breath Of Fire 2, they're ok. Better than average but not the best. Still, it's a pleasure to watch the game, and when it comes to fighting scenes, they look astonishing. The animation is killer-good-looking and the models are very nice! That's the best thing of the graphics. Also, it's pretty neat when you use a dragon power or something, it makes a pretty nasty looking animation and it sure hurts.

I always said that the only really bad side in Breath Of Fire -series is their music. You remember the horrible soundtrack of Breath Of Fire 1? Ugh, thank goodness it's not that bad in Breath Of Fire 2 but it could be better. You see, the songs aren't that bad when listened separately, but they don't always seem to fit the scenes that they are meant to. Tsk tsk. Anyways, the battle music is very catchy and it changes during the game and it rocks like heck! Damn!

Oh well, the system is pretty usual in the game. You buy your weapons, armors and such and you'll have to take care that your characters don't drop out during the fight. Of course you have the necessary items for every bad and good situation, hopefully.

As a conclusion, Breath Of Fire 2 isn't that bad a game, it just needs some time to grow on you. Forget the minor flaws in the game and you'll have a wonderful experience, like I did. Recommended to RPG fans.
