Bravely Second may the be the best game you ever play but the game has an undeniable charm for FF fans!

User Rating: 9 | Bravely Second: End Layer 3DS

Bravely Default was a game very reminiscent of early final fantasy games and took on an amazing combat system that made the game the game feel fresh while keeping with the style of the games that I love. However, the game did have a few problems and a certain point of repetition caused the game to become almost unplayable. Bravely Second however, fixes many of these problem and makes for an overall much better game with it.

Story: 9/10

Bravely Second’s story is one that stays strong throughout. Although some twists are predictable and some of the dialogue can be a bit cheesy, there’s just a certain charm about everything that happens that makes you just feel so invoked into the world of Luxendarc and what happens. It certainly won’t be one you won’t want to put down once you pick it up.

Score: 10/10

Bravely Default had one of best soundtracks I’ve ever heard in a game before and Bravely Second has found a way to one-up its’ predecessor. So many of the songs just seem to have a magical sense that really brings you into the game and feel the intensity that the developers want you to feel in these battles.

Characters/Character Development: 8/10

This game has a great set of characters. The new main character, Yew, won’t be your favorite character, but certainly is well enough connected and has an interesting backstory that allows him to suite his role well. Other minor characters like Janne and Nikolai also make for great side characters, not to mention that most of the asterisk holders (not Minette) are enjoyable and quirky enough to feel interesting.

Graphics: 8/10

Now as far as graphics go, this game really is a double-edged sword. I say this because the cities and landscapes are all very breathtaking and drawn beautifully. However, when you are in a town, it’s nothing more than walking around on a picture and almost all of the fantastic buildings are completely inaccessible. This makes something with so much potential feel so shallow and lost of what could have been a masterpiece. Also the characters look a bit pixelated, but it’s nothing that isn’t quickly gotten used to.

Gameplay: 9.5/10

Combat here is one of the best in the (technically) final fantasy series. The concept of saving up turns or using extra turns in advance is a system that works so beautifully and perfectly in the Bravely series; wither its using a bunch of turns to kill and enemy quickly or saving up turns to launch a big string of attacks, you always have plenty of options at your disposal for victory.

Difficulty: 4/10 (0 being the easiest, 10 being the hardest)(On normal)

This game for the most part provides a good challenge, but once you get a variety of attacks at your disposal you’ll start to find what works best for you and get a great deal of damage in each turn during combat. However, it would have been nicer to feel like some of the enemies were pushing you harder and making survival feel just a bit tougher.

Fun: 8.5/10

This game truly is enjoyable to play with enough world to feel like you can explore, but aside from the side quests for different jobs, there isn’t much else outside of the main story to do. Still, you won’t feel like you need any extra as progressing through this game gives you a great sense of accomplishment.
