Hudson's attempt at a mascot... and it's pretty good!

User Rating: 8.3 | PC Genjin TG16
SEGA has sonic, Nintendo has mario, and Hudson has (or HAD) BONK, that lovable little caveman with the oversized head. This was THE sidescroller for the TG-16, and although ports and sequels hit the NES and SNES... this is the one that started it all. The giant head's not just for looks, it's actually the game's central mechanic. You can use a simple bash, or jump in the air for a slam. You can even do this weird spin-thing to keep yourselfp in the air longer. You can pick up meat to restore your hearts (think Zelda), but then if you keep picking it up you can turn invincible, and your mighy ground slams shall shatter the earth. You can also climb onto walls with your teeth. The level design is where this game really shines. Early on in the game, volcanoes and hills emerge at your feet, the ground sinks, and plenty more hazards to keep you on your toes. Theres plenty of bosses to add to the challenge. The music, although NES quality, is very catchy, and the fx don't disappoint. The graphics are simple, yet colorful and expressive. Overall, for $6, I strongly recommend it. If you enjoy platformers and have never played this... GET IT. But even for those who have played it, the gameplay holds up well, and it's worth another look.
