Bloody Roar: Primal Fury (BRPF) is the semi-sequel to the PS2’s Bloody Roar 3.

As for the actual hand-to-hand combat in the game, there is a punch (B), a kick (A), a beast attack/beast transform button (X) and a throw/block button (Y). While in beast form, pressing X does an attack, which is generally more powerful than regular punch and kick attacks. If you press X while in human form and your beast gauge has some yellow in it, you'll transform into your beast form. If an opponent is near you when you transform, you'll knock him down. By pressing forward and Y, you can grab and throw the opponent. You can block more powerful attacks by using heavy block instead of the regular block. Speaking of which, to do a regular block, just press back. By pressing the Z Button, you can transform into a hyper beast. In this form, you have unlimited Beast Drives and are really fast. You also take a lot less damage. Of course, you'll lose some health if you transform and your beast gauge isn't completely full, so be careful when you do this. The beast gauge will completely fill up with a red color and slowly decrease. Once it is empty, you revert back to your human form. By the way, a "Beast Drive" is basically a really cool super move that does insane damage. Once you do a "Beast Drive" you will automatically revert back into your human form whether it was a successful attack or not.

BRPF has a lot of cool things in it. One of the coolest features of this game is that you can get knocked out of the ring like in the original Bloody Roar. The arena you fight in has walls on all four sides and if you or your opponent are hit into a wall enough times, it will break off. Then you can knock your opponent out of the ring and automatically win the round. The wall will be gone for the rest of the match. Of course in order to win a match, you must win 2 rounds (default) by either getting rid of the opponent's health or knocking them out of the ring.

Of course, not all of the features in BRPF are worth doing. I would avoid Time Attack mode altogether because the final boss fight against Uranus is impossible to beat. I gave up fighting her after 10 minutes of getting my butt kicked. She got a “perfect” almost every round! That is one of the flaws with this game— the boss fights are very hard, but they aren't impossible. If you want to try a really tough boss fight in the Bloody Roar series, try fighting against Shenlong in BR2. He took me one and a half hours to beat! Sadly, they ruined Shenlong in BR3 and BRPF. He now sounds like a wimp and is nowhere near as tough to beat as he was in BR2. I was really upset about how they butchered Shenlong in this game. He was my favorite character in BR2, but the developers turned him into a whinny teenager.

Speaking of modes, there is an Arcade Mode, a standard VS Mode, a Team Battle Mode against the computer, and a VS Team Battle Mode that you can only do against a friend. In Team Battle and VS Team Battle you can have either three or five characters on each team. Both teams have to have the same amount of characters on them so you can't have player one have three characters and player two have five. In team battle and VS team battle, you can never break the walls or get a “ring-out.”

There are also some secret modes you can unlock. One of them is a Theatre Mode, where you can watch the endings (once you have unlocked them), the opening, and the closing credits. All of the scenes in theatre mode are Japanese-Anime-style, which makes them look really cool!

The other secret mode is the Cheats mode. With it, you can play ANY mode with a whole slew of cheats turned on. But you can only have one cheat per category. So, you can do VS Team Battle with hyper speed, no walls, huge arms, no blocking and set it so that the characters will always be in hyper beast form with an unlimited beast gauge. Or, you could do arcade mode with slow-mo speed, weak walls, human form only and max CPU difficulty. Of course the max CPU difficulty cheat will only take affect in modes where you fight a CPU opponent.
