It's flawed, but still good.

I've been waiting for this to come out in English (text only though since as a rule I hate dubs)... anyway, I've been waiting since I heard it was going to be an srpg. Now that it's here I have some mixed opinions about it.

Sound
Firstly the dub, kind of annoying, but what dub isn't. Luckily this wasn't so bad as far as they go, with only Kon and his 'Free Time' sounds irritating me thus far. Then I found out that when they localized it they cut out a bunch of voice acting during cut scenes. Which really annoyed me for a minute, then I was happy I didn't have to listen to people who range from unskilled to moderately skilled talking the whole time. But hey that's mostly up to personal taste so let's move on shall we?
The sound effects are very meh. Which is to say not great but not terrible. Just... so-so. Music on the other hand is much better... which a fan of the show would probably expect.

Graphics
Graphics is where the game makes up for it's minor flaws, which we'll get to later. Maps are very nicely laid out. Character sprites are great and in fact when it comes to map representations the game outshines even Fire Emblem.
Battle animation sequences are great, but also one of the games main weak points. You have to watch every combat scene. No ifs ands or skipping...s, which the aforementioned Fire Emblem let you do. This get's very tedious for some people, and in general slows down game play needlessly.

Gameplay
Very standard for the srpg genre. You move and attack and end your turn. There's not much by way of equipment, at least as far as I've gotten into the game. You do take healing equipment and such into battle but it's limited as to how much you can take into one battle.
The game features a 'free time' mode where you view different character specific cut scenes that each cost a certain amount of points, and move Kon on a board the same number of spots. The board may contain stat boosts extra items, as well as pits for you to fall into. In addition some cut scenes add additional items or stat boosts, or may raise affinity with their respective character.
Cut scenes are the other place the game is a touch slow. There is noticeable delay between the player pushing the advance button and the game realizing you did it. This however only applies to cut scenes and is probably a relic from the removed voice acting.
Characters and monsters are divided into one of five categories. three of these following the 'rock paper scissors' methodology of strength and weakness as well as their being two additional types one for 'doesn't do combat at all' and one for 'strong against everything'.

Story
You are prompted to pick one character from a pair of twin siblings. Either the male or the female one. Each has their own individual Zanpakutou. You'll be able to name the character you choose but the other will keep their default first name, but the surname applies... kind of obvious. From there the game unfolds with your characters eventually joining Squad 5 and from their interacting with a cast of people you've already run into. (Or not... I'm not 100% sure where the english version anime is at currently)
I'll not touch more on the story as a) that'd be spoiling and b) I've not yet finished it :p

Baseline
The games got some slowdowns (literally) but still if you're a fan of Bleach in pretty much any of it's forms you'll have a good time with it if not just for the storyline. People who aren't fans may still like it but it really caters to people who're already fans. But hey if you think you might like it play it, that's the number one rule of games. Maybe number two, number one should be feel free to ignore reviewers. ;)
