Could have been great, but definitely isn't.

User Rating: 5.5 | Blacklight: Tango Down X360
Blacklight TangoDown emulates Call of Duty Modern Warfare games' style of play fairly closely, although I might suggest that it is best described as a hybrid of Modern Warfare 2 and Halo 3's gameplay. This doesn't sound like a bad thing, and in theory this game could be great, but here is why it most certainly is not.
Fixed spawn points, as most readers already know about, very much ruin the pace of the multiplayer gameplay. Due to the fact that getting shot only a few times results in death (as it should), you might find yourself running out from your spawn point multiple times during a match when either a pesky sniper (or annoyingly lucky camper) continues to end you virtual life prematurely. This really degrades at the amount of fun you can have while playing BTD, unless your favorite aspect of the game is running and respawning. Granted, the game does offer decent visuals and great sound effects, and when you're successfully mercing other players in the game, it can be moderately fun. However, some of the mechanics of the game are also slightly annoying and degrade the quality of the gameplay. MY PRIMARY COMPLAINT in this department is the extremely fast strafing speed. Even while running, a player can strafe so unrealistically fast that not only does it highlight this game's bargain basement nature, but it makes people annoyingly difficult to shoot. I played a number of matches in which I was able to shoot multiple enemies that were able to avoid death by using the old zig zag strafe maneuver while running toward me and gunning me down. This is not to say I'm a terrible BTD player and only didn't enjoy it for that fact, because this is not the case. I certainly have been successful in a number of matches, mostly team death match, in winning as well as coming out with a positive KD, which is my primary concern (chuckles). I know the game is cheap, but that doesn't mean I want it to feel cheap. If I wanted to strafe like that, I would break out DOOM I or II. The point is that this game is no substitute for many of the great FPS multiplayer games out there now that the majority of FPS playing console owners already have on the shelf. As an avid CODMW2 player, I gave BTD a fair chance because I liked the look of it and wanted a change of pace, but it wasn't even worth purchasing.
My advice to any serious FPS players out there, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. Why? Because in two months you'll be kicking the crud out of yourself when all of the other BTD players have moved on to Halo Reach and COD Black Ops, among all the other sweet games that are coming out this holiday season (CRYSIS 2!! :)). Seriously, the servers are going to be empty in a couple of months, and since this game is pretty mediocre, why waste your $15 on this? Buy another better XBLA game instead, or just save your cash.
PEACE! :)
