Give it a chance, it's one of those rare games that you HAVE to play.

I really hated this game the first time I played it and just couldn't get into it. I found everything about it pretty awful and playing on the hardest difficulty, it was such a grind. Yesterday I decided to put it on Easy so I could give the story a go and it blew me away. That, if nothing else, is the real reason to play this game. It's such a good narrative, with twists and turns and fantastic storytelling. It's brilliantly paced and has you completely hooked right to the end, though I felt it started a bit slow. The whole world is somehow believable which seems ridiculous, but the way everybody justifies their actions and with the power struggles and everything is just so well done. The world itself is beautiful (in it's own, f***ed up way) and the graphics are incredible, especially for a game of 2007.
The gameplay is great, especially as you progress, you unlock abilities, weapons and upgrades and it really feels like you're going somewhere as you're rewarded for exploration.
It isn't perfect though, the hacking especially gets very tired, so you just end up shooting everything anyway. Another few minor snags, like the story is quite short, though that didn't bother me, but it takes nothing away from the game overall.
