Incredibly ambitious, but falls short of Rapture

User Rating: 8.5 | BioShock Infinite PS3
This is an incredible, ambitious game that all serious AAA gamers should get, play, and ponder. Everything about this first-person shooter/action game is top-notch; from the game play, to the environment, to the characters. Only... it falls short of Rapture in that is doesn't really set up its universe as well as Bioshock 1 & 2 did. Of course, this is minor quip.

Let me address one issue: In Rapture, the morally corrupted scientists developed powerful drugs to alter genetics. These drugs were abused to the point they drove everyone mad: Adam and Eve. In Columbia, there are Vigor and Salts. Much the same as Adam and Eve, but different (and fun!) abilities. So... where did Vigor and Salts come from and (bigger question) why did the people of Columbia (a very different culture than in Rapture) create them?

I know, you need them to continue the game play that was established in Bioshock 1 & 2... but it seems that was the only reason Columbia had them. If I missed other reasons -- I did look for them -- then it's because I was having too much fun. In the Bioshock world, the story and its fundamental believability is as important as the fun in playing the game. IMHO, this is where Infinite falls short... a bit.

Speaking of 'Infinite'... the ending certainly describes the game's namesake. I needed chemical enhancements myself to understand it... but failed because... Elizabeth(s)?
