Beyond two souls- Be immersed 10/10

User Rating: 10 | Beyond: Two Souls (Special Edition) PS3

(Rating system might still be broken. Shows 1/10 when i rated it 10/10)

I finished finished the whole game in 2 days... The first game i finished in a while. (thought i loved The Last Of Us i haven't finished that yet.)

Without spoilers I will say that the inconsistency of past and present in the game/story is meant to be, and if you finish the whole game you will know why. Also due to the inconsistency I was able to care about characters that weren't there through the whole game while it happened. Instead of hoping to revisit characters I just left or will see.

(spoiler free)

You follow the life of Jodie who is born specially due to an entity attached to her soul. You see her life through her (and Aiden's) eyes as well as through her experiences. At first her experiences may seem disorientated, but they all start fitting together as it unveils her life one page at a time. The "unorganized story" as they call it is actually the very way they made this story fit together so well, and that is only able to be experienced by someone who finished the game. It's one of those "Oh ... my god... Is that why?... " moments where you rarely get from any games.

The game mechanics aren't the smoothest, but the combat mechanics I find are fun intuitive for the purpose of THIS game where it's more focused on the storytelling.

Some may argue this may not be a "game" by definition, however I believe the diversity of these kind of games will help revolutionize the industry and hopefully inspire more creative "games" in the future. (Really don't need too many rehashed FPS every single year, just give us a really good one every time it's ready instead of forcing it out.)

The storytelling is superb with Ellen's acting skills and the music. And I must say I was on the verge of tears at least 3 times in the whole game, other times I felt empathy for Ellen and other characters.

Overall I loved the game and if there were any flaws, I'd say I wish for a skip button when replaying.

The most important thing to remember when playing this game:

Remember to be in the present. Forget everything else you done that has nothing to do with the story, turn distractions such as the kitchen fire, alarm clocks, phones, etc. Focus on the story of Ellen as she reveals it. And immersion will naturally come to you. The game deserves your undivided attention, and when you give it such you will be rewarded with one of the best experiences of a lifetime.

I still find myself browsing through the internet finding more about the game just trying to relive even a second of the story. That just shows me how attached I became with the story and characters...
