Entertaining, feel good game of high quality!
In "Beyond Good & Evil" you play as Jade, a young woman who lives on the planet Hillys and runs a lighthouse together with Pey'j, her humanoid pig uncle. The planet is threatened by an alien force called the DomZ but there is Hilly's elite squadron the Alpha Sections who protects them from attacks - or at least it seems like that... Because here is also an underground rebel organization called IRIS Network who claims the Alpha Section to play on both sides. IRIS is a news network and trys to inform the people about the connection between the DomZ and the Alpha Sections in their newsletter. Jade got hired there as a photographer and her job is infiltrating facilities, taking pictures and revealing the truth.
The game is varied:
- Fights with Jade and together with two of her friends on land
- Fights with the hovercraft on the water
- Fights with the airship in the air and even in space
- Nice, easy going puzzles. Interesting and never frustrating
- Some racing parts
- Exciting sneaking parts
- Pursuits and chases which I really enjoyed
- Taking photos
- Some minigames and sidequests
- After completing certain things you'll get two nice extra mini games
The world you live in is well constructed:
- It has a day and night system
- The enviroment and the places are interesting and have a good atmosphere
- There are lovely characters and funny species
- Interesting payment system:
Most things can be bought with crystals, which can be found in boxes, won by doing mini games, got by defeating enemies, or as a reward for taking a photo of every new species. The crystals will be saved on your credit/ID card. You can buy things in shops or from machines which will be refilled after a certain time.
And other things can only be bought with pearls on the black market. Those pearls are limited to 88 in the whole game. There are different ways to get them. The good thing is you won't need all pearls.
- You are able to subscribe to news which you will get by email. Yep, there is an email system in this world too.
- There are 56 animals that can be photographed by you. For each new species you'll get money. And for each full roll of film you'll get a special reward (mostly pearls).
- There can be found 13 PA1's "hearts" and you can swap them at any time with Jades friends, which is a nice feature.
- There 6 Meca Impulsers, which upgrade the speed of your hovercraft.
- There are readers where you can save the game and read your MDisks, which contain messages and the extra mini games (14 can be found)
- And yeah, there is one creative part where you can get an extra by going online (on the internet in our real world) on the game's page. You'll have to enter an individual code from the game and then you'll have break some codes on the page to get another code for the game.
The look:
Everything is presented in good graphics and animations.
The sound:
The music is very good and the effects and voice actors are fitting in very well.
Last word:
For me it was an entertaining, feel good game and became quickliy one of my favorites.
