Charming little shooter combining flashy visual style with hectic action, to the beat of your own song collection.

User Rating: 8.5 | Beat Hazard PC
The basic concept of Beath Hazard is very simple dating all the way back to Asteroids, you control a small spaceship from a top-down point of view and blast away everything that appears on screen.

What makes Beat Hazard stand out from the rest is that the game is paced to your own music. When the song gets faster, your weapons get more powerful and the enemies more numerous. And like in Audiosurf you can use any song in your mp3 collection. Getting a massive weapons boost when your favourite song really gets going gives you a sense of satisfaction each and everytime.

What also helps are the brilliant visuals, while it's only a top-down shooter it's filled with crazy effects and bright colors, perhaps to the extent that it might not suit everyone. But to those that can handle it, keeping track of everything in the neon light chaos adds not only eye candy but another gameplay element.

Aside from that there isn't much to tell, it has two basic gameplay modes, very simple controls either on KB/M or a gamepad, and takes full advantage of Steam's community features.

It might not have the kind of lasting appeal that games with more depth offer, but for the price it's a highly recommendable distraction.
