Kuju does a great job delivering a 3-D action/strategy game in the well known Advance Wars universe.

User Rating: 8.4 | Battalion Wars GC
The Advance Wars games are among the best strategy games on the market, and the fact that the games are on handheld consoles is incredible. When Kuju first announced that they were working on a 3-Dimensional Advance Wars game, we were all excited about it. But when we saw the first screenshots from the game, we totally lost hope, cause it looked bad. After a while new screenshots where published and the game started to look pretty good actually. Now the game is released, and I must say that Kuju has done an awesome job making such a great action/strategy game such as Battalion Wars.

The graphics in BW are in the same category as the Advance Wars games. They aren't detailed, but have a cool cartoony look. The game really looks like an Advance Wars game. The presentation is nice, and you are introduced to new vehicles and soldiers as they come along.

The sounds are just great. From the typical military music to the stereotype voices of the CO's. The very american americans and the very russian russians are very cool. I actually laughed a couple of time just bacause they sound so silly with their "russian american" speech.

Battalion Wars contains a lot of action, and sometimes doesn't feel strategic at all. But the later levels require a lot of thinking and planing. The action is very good, and it's very saticfying to see an enemy bomber catching fire when firing at it with your anti-air units. The game isn't really that hard, and you'll probably finish it in like 8 hours or so, but you'll want to revisit the levels to earn higher rankings, and thereby unlocking bonus levels. These levels are actually worth unlocking too, cause they are among the best missions in the whole game. All the different types of soldiers and vehicles are also very well balanced, and you'll have to use them all very well to finish each mission with a high rank. Cause after each mission you'll receive a rank, C, B, A or S, where C is the crappy one and S is the superduper. There are several cut-scenes between the missions that tells the story, and this works very well. The story is pretty simple, but it gives the game good variation because of the change of environments and enemies. On the negative side, the game is pretty shallow. There's only the story mode, and no extra game modes for you to play with. And that's a shame cause a "war room" like in the Advance Wars games would have been very welcome. The gameplay also gets a bit to chaotic at times, cause the controls aren't that easy to pull of in such a hurry. The controls are very good though, but they require some practice. Battalion Wars summans up as a very good game, and it's nice to see some good Gamecube titles still coming out. Buy with confident if you like action/strategy games.

Good action. The game makes you plan your move and think. The graphics are pretty and cool. The presentation is cartoony and solid. The CO's are all very cool, and some are pretty funny too. All the different units are very good. There are unlockable bonus missions.

The controls become very hard when there's chaos on the battlefield. The main missions will last a maximum of 10 hours. There's only story mode.
