Had Acclaim made Batman Forever on the Snes have good controls and original engines, it would've been true to be great.

User Rating: 3 | Batman Forever SNES
The good: Digitized graphics and detailed backgrounds look amazing.
The bad: Shabby music and sound effects, laughably bad recycled Mortal Kombat moves, abysmal control scheme.

Batman on the Snes was like Mickey mouse on the Genesis; any game is good. It's also like Mickey Mouse in that it had a broken game (Fantasia), except Batman Forever is much, much worse. Anyone whose known the golden age of bad movie games would know that Acclaim is a leader in that division, espicially with this craptastic junk. All I would ask for it would be that it would be playable. But nooooo! Acclaim thought it would be necessary to put the controls at different places. The moving isn't clunky, the moving left to right thing is fine.

The problem is that, Acclaim made up on the d-pad the jump button. The Super Smash Bros does this, but it has an analog controller. The Snes doesn't. Like Fantasia, the contro, scheme is unnecessary. Also, to fire your Bat hook thingy, you have to press a button slightly before another (I haven't played the game in a while, so I've forgotten). For going under floors, you have to press r-down, pressing r slightly before down on the d-pad. These stupid control schemes make the game virtually unplayable.

If that doesn't kill, which it should, the recycled gameplay from Mortal Kombat will, espicially since Acclaim made the ports of the classic arcade game (the ports were classic as well, even for Acclaim). Beating people up is stupid. Instead of combos, Acclaim though it would be nice to have the hit guy fall 5 feet to the right, and it takes 3 seconds to get back up. No combos makes it even more frustrating! Also, the music and sound are shabby and stupid.

On the other hand, the digitized graphics and backgrounds are detailed and look great. Every stage has lots of cool looking stuff. Unfortunately, this is the only great thing about this stupid game. Had Acclaim made Batman Forever on the Snes have good controls and original engines, it would've been true to be great. One of the worst movie games ever, you're better off with the Genesis version, the PC version, the Game Gear and Game boy versions, and even the craptastic crap Arcade version.
