Batman Begins. Worth a spin. If your a Batman freak, like me, it's a MUST have.

Batman Begins. The game. It's the best Batman video game ever. However, that's not saying much. Still, though, it's a good game. Not great. It's greatest flaw, really, is how it simply underestimates your gamer skills. It holds your hand throughout the game, specifically telling you what to do, when to do it, and how to do all the time. It treats us as if we were stupid 10 year old gamers. Stupid, because I think even average 10 year olds could figure out the gameplay without the help. The second flaw with Batman Begins is the clear line of imitation. It's so obvious where it draws it's inspiration, to the point of nearing stealing them, that you cannot help but think of the originals.....and remember how much better those were at what Batman Begins is trying to accomplish. Splinter Cell is written all over the stealth gameplay, minus the light and shadow meter. Burnout is written all over the Batmobile levels. However, the game does a decent job of copying these.....and it actually manages to hold it self together.

Now, the good. Voice acting is great. You've got the greatest Batman ever, Christian Bale, voicing the Batman/Bruce Wayne. It seems that he recorded the voice over for the game AFTER filming the movie, and for some reason he sounds as if he got a better grip on his growling voice here. He manages to maintain it between the growl and the baritone, which worked nicely. Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Cillian Murphy, Katie Holmes, and even Christopher Nolan's wife in a cameo at Arkham Asylum all add up to a very authentic movie tie in. Likeness is all right too, with Michael Caine looking the very best....for about the 6 seconds he's onscreen. The story is fine. No where near as well written, well thought out, or masterful as the film....but it manages to go a different route in an attempt to be a companion to the film rather than a re-telling. It attempts to fill in the gaps of the film, like Batman investigating the shipments in the docks before nabbing Falcone. In the end though, compared to the film, it all seems very shabby and unorganized. The controls are decent. They're better than any Batman game. Which means, Batman moves when you want him to and where you want him to. He moves like a panther, which is great. Agile, quick, and can climb onto anything really. The controls are not broken in any way, while the fighting is entirely too repetive and doesn't have enough moves. It's also too linear as well, only allowing you to succeed by only one manner. Blocking, and counter attacking.

Overall, the game isn't great. It's not bad. It's good. As a Batman game, it's the best the character has to offer it's gaming alligence. It's got flaws, but if your a diehard Batman fan, like me, you'll overlook them and enjoy the game. Besides, it's based on the best Batman movie made to date. It's got that going for it.
