The chief victory this game scores in making you feel like Batman.

From the combat to the gadgets, every element of this game makes you feel like the Dark Knight. While some of the detective elements strain credulity, they are an often overlooked aspect of Batman, and fit well within the framework of the game. The combat is fast and fluid (no shaky-cam, Nolan). The plot of the game is well written and uses the Batman license well. Even very minor characters in the 70 year Batman history are represented in some way (sometimes as an unlockable bio). The models are all detailed and consistent. The few platforming-style areas slow the game down a little bit, but are typically short. The challenge mode presents something of a break from the story and an excellent way to isolate and practice some of the individual elements within the game.

The game is very linear with some backtracking which might annoy some, but there is something to be said for the liberally spread Riddler Challenges throughout that give the player something to do while they're traveling to the next location. I found myself spending much more time than usual looking for the answer to the riddles and hunting down the hidden trophies.
