While Sega has a reputation of making either hit-or-miss games, this game was a hit all around! It was built around one of the most unlikely candidates to be used for a Game Boy Advance game: Astro Boy! This was truly an unusual combination. While Astro Boy was clearly video game material, nobody had ever really tried to make a game revolving around the humanoid robot before. Until Sega decided to do it, and they decided to do it successfully! But to everyone's surprise (maybe even to Sega) was that not only was Astro Boy for the Game Boy Advance a success, it was a gigantic success, far bigger of a success than anyone had ever expected before! The Game Boy Advance fires on all four cylinders for this game not just because it can, but it has to! The game wouldn't have been as good if every bit of muscle power hadn't have been used! This could be considered a portable cartridge on steroids, but unlike sports, a video game cartridge on steroids is usually a good thing, especially if its for a portable video game system! The character/enemy and background graphics are absolutely some of the best for the Game Boy Advance, the gameplay/game control is absolutely perfect, the music is some of the best ever composed for the portable handheld, and the story writing is outstanding even for people who know absolutely nothing about "Astro Boy." The game is interesting because at first, it seems like a standard side-scrolling progression game, but when it comes to what APPEARS to be the final boss, there's a twist: Astro Boy actually dies! But he's brought back to life because a deity says that the hero has unfinished business and needs to go back and fix what has gone wrong and make things right in the world. So now, Astro Boy can choose where to go to, new areas of stages he's already beaten before can be discovered, and the story Astro Boy has lived before can now be lived differently based on the changes Astro Boy makes to the events in his life and how he handles the same situation differently. So if Astro Boy can make everything right, the next time he faces against the final boss, he won't die! This is an absolutely a fantastic 2-D side-scrolling game, one of the best in existence! I certainly enjoyed it, and it is for that reason that I reviewed this game! Enough said! ;)
