Visually stunning, addictive gameplay, and intriguing story makes ACII an amazing addition to the series.

I loved the first Assassin's Creed, even if the gameplay seemed a bit monotonous at times. The original story that intertwined bits of real history with fiction was masterfully done. In Assassin's Creed II, Ubisoft took everything great about the game and made it better, and took everything that wasn't so good about the game and made it great. The story, once again, is very well done, and even goes further by including influential people of history and weaving them into this very interesting fiction.
The gameplay, in my opinion, is much better this time around, due to the variety of options available, and the fact that it doesn't feel static like the first. You are basically free to do what you please, and if you follow the main storyline while you do your thing, all the better. You are rewarded for your nosing around the world, as the more things you collect, the more items become available to you, as well as your income increases.
If I had to choose my favorite parts of the game they would be the puzzles and the ending. I'm not going to give anything away, but I feel like I need to play this game many more times.
Overall, it's addicting, very fun, and quite spectacular visually; the architecture and art of Renaissance Italy really bring this game to life and give it a depth the first didn't have. If you haven't played the first game, you won't miss out on too much, but if you have you'll be duly rewarded.
