Xbox One's Crackdown Staying Hidden Until 2015

"Probably no Crackdown news for the rest of 2014," Phil Spencer says.

The new Crackdown game for Xbox One announced during Microsoft's E3 briefing in June likely won't be seen again until 2015, according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer.

"Probably no Crackdown news for the rest of 2014," he said on Twitter. "Team is making progress but they need time before we show anything again."

That's frustrating news for Crackdown fans, but it's not as if there aren't going to be a whole host of other games for Xbox One--and PlayStation 4 and Wii U, too--later on this year.

Details are light on the new Crackdown game for Xbox One. We do know, however, that original designer Dave Jones is working on it, and that it will offer a co-op campaign, online multiplayer, and destructible environments. Microsoft also doesn't want you to think of it as Crackdown 3, as it exists more as a sequel to Crackdown 1 than 2, and takes place in a different timeline.

Crackdown will be one of the first games the actually utilizes the Cloud for more then just A.I. and calaculations. It will be a part of the building destructions and other damages happening within the city. This game will most likely use DX12 as well. It's going to be incredible.

"didnt read article"

i dunno why on the twitter feed every time i scroll through and see the pic at first glance i think "news on mass effect... no wait"

I'm cool with that.  The less hype means less chance of it not living up to the hype and more time making the game instead of bragging up expectations that cant be met.

*cough* watchdogs/destiny/bloodbourne *cough*

BTW give us some Phantom Dust info though! My favorite game on the original XBox.

That's fine, take your time with it.  Especially if you are trying to make a solid game with tons of destruction, do it right.  Tons of destruction and advanced physics, much more important than full 1080p.

So if Crackdown is not a sequel to Crackdown 1 and 2. Then this is a reboot. Which I am fine with. Microsoft hopefully will make this into a great franchise for the 8th Generation of Games.

i have never played a crackdown so, but however the x1 has a lot more going for it than the ps4 in the future, sony horse power is going to run out soon people. but the cloud is something most real tech people are looking forward to see in action.

Probably because they are actually trying to figure out how to run that cloud-based physics simulation instead of just running it on a nice PC like they did.

Probably because it sucks or doesn't look very good.

I just hope it can recapture it's original glory and add something new to the mix!

I'm glad David Jones is back on this series. That and the destruction have piqued my interest.

This isn't bad news, this series is okay at best anyway.

Played the first it was pretty fun for a few hours then It just got boring and repetitive, Only sold for the Halo Beta in the first place this really isn't on Par with Games Sony and Nintendo have coming out and the other games like pretty Average too Microsoft really need a new I.P that is owned by one of their Studios that has some kind of depth to it because this game really is kind of pointless especially seeing as they have Sunset Overdrive coming sooner which arguably looks better then Crackdown.

@spacecadet25 I'm all for stuff like better physics, even at the expense of graphics, but I'm not getting my hopes up too high for it, that's usually a bad idea with any game :).

@kane6911 I agree, do you remember when they showed that demo of the destruction of a building and how all of the pieces tumbled and rotated hitting each other and breaking into smaller pieces?  Rumor is that was an early build of the new Crackdown.  If so, it is going to be something different than what we have seen on the new systems so far.

@kane6911 How many unsubstantiated statements can you cram into one post? lol.

@angryguy77 This is very interesting. Not just as a gamer but as someone going into the IT field. I knew MS's investment in cloud computing would pay off. With some more testing, they could get this working for any type of game. When they do get this working, getting to 1080p at 60 fps will be very easy. I know you need have a solid internet connection but how many people who have a gold membership don't have a solid internet connection. I think the new Crackdown will be the first game to use this and it will be a test because of the destruction that you will be able to do.

dussan2

@angryguy77 Let me know when MSFT figures out how to get the Cloud to work without an internet connection.  Because that would actually fix their problem.

No one is denying the theoretical potential of the Cloud.  It's that it requires a persistent connection to the internet which is not gonna fly.

@angryguy77 I laugh at people that say the cloud based gaming is a myth. Really Cloud Based gaming is venturing into uncharted waters. It's the rediscovering of America basically with Onlive being the first attempt at it. It's laughable to think that any body knows what they are talking about it unless they physically work on it. No telling what this could do in the future of gaming for both MS, Sony, and even Nintendo if they ever change their archaic practice.

zerooo0

@flyincloud1116 Well really they haven't had the chance to shine. Maybe now with the better hardware than the 360 really no telling what they could be aiming for.

@sonyonly4 We don't even know what Crackdown looks like yet. lol!! Horizon 2 and Quantum Break are going to be incredible. Exceed many of the games on PS4.

spacecadet25

@sonyonly4  This one looks like it's going to have tons of destruction though.  Adding that is a real game-changer.  Unlike their horrible addition of zombies in Crackdown 2.

@sandman338 @kane6911 yes i do, but since this will be my first crackdown game i can't wait to see what it will really looks like and play like.

@cryofax @kane6911 give me one real innovated thing sony has on the ps4 console itself. add on parts do not count. go ahead start listing

@spacecadet25 I have in fact heard your mum (very much like crackdown) sucks so bad and looks so awful so much that she has to stay hidden until 2015  :) Sorry to all the Crackdown fanboys, but theses games were terrible, and i cant see this one breaking any boundaries.

Burriscold

It will fly even if some get left behind. Wanna know why? Most ppl in the us and even europe and yes even canada have more than the required speeds. US actually being the worse of the three because of crooked cable companys, which is my point for blame, not MS. But regardless MS cracked the code for all you bums that still use DSL. 25/20 I does just fine with or without you

@dussan2 @angryguy77 Every single person i know has a constant connection to the internet, the area i live is not technologically advanced.

angryguy77
angryguy77

@dussan2 @angryguy77 I'd bet most people who game have a connection, at least in the major markets.

I mean if they didn't, most ps4 fans wouldn't be able to use their bluray player because they didn't have access to the net.

The thing is, this finding if true, is turning the theoretical into reality

angryguy77
angryguy77

@zerooo0 @angryguy77 exactly. I've said it 100's of times that if you make fun of it, in time you will be made to look foolish for doing so.

The biggest reason they said it wouldn't work was latency, MS just found a way around that. Just think, this gen isn't even a year old yet and we have this to look forward to.

@kane6911 @cryofax Don't change the subject. You threw out a bunch of unsubstantiated opinions and I called you on it. You're the one who has to prove your points. I don't see anything especially amazing for the XB1 going forward. And "real tech people"? Did you conduct a nationwide poll of these "real tech people"? And who are the fake ones?

@kane6911 @cryofax

1)Touch pad which works great on the Vita,

2)Speaker on controller,

3)8GB GDDR5 RAM is innovative because it was a genius addition late in the development.

I prefer the Xbox One btw

@MaXiMuS2oo9 So i am going to assume you have only ever owned Sony consoles but go out of your way to say crackdown has always sucked lol

Burriscold

The brillance is that theyve been planning this for years. Wouldnt be surprised if all this wasnt designed this way. In meaning the systems hardware, in knowing theyd be tweakin old tech this way. Basically by layering and allowing Azure to carry heavy filler code ie sky, roadways, most maps in general etc in such a way, that Devs can finally take truly innovative steps.

Most ppl see cloud as storing saves or back up for files , itunes lol. MS spent BILLIONS, Tru greatness comes soon. I wish Sony would sell MS socom, we'd treat it right. Halo type remaster for 1-3! Millions dumped on the project. Pettition that! Psduh fannies, smh. 10 million? And for games like Bloodbourne? Hack and slash, with very poor slash. So sad. Monsters look kinda cool at least, right? Enjoy those indies

@angryguy77 @zerooo0 Throwing my money into the pot in agreement. Why people have poopooed this for so long is dopey. Microsoft leads in technological research alongside Google. Can't deny their innovation.

blackace
blackace

@i_am_number_4 @kane6911 @cryofax GDDR5 RAM isn't innovative. Speaker on controller is different. I think it's been done before on PC. Not on consoles though. XB1 has rumble in the triggers, which hasn't been done on consoles.  Touch is hardly utilized by PS4 games unfortunately.

kane6911
kane6911

@i_am_number_4 @kane6911 @cryofax ok first off all the vita a separate device, so that doesn't count any way. plus the vita sucks which is why sony is trying to phase it out slowly. the controller is not really innovative either but i will let that stay. the wii-u touch pad has that beat hands down. and as far as what's in the console hardware ( chips or what not) that really doesn't count either/ so my point remains the same. sony has brought nothing new to console experience. the machine is a one note machine and it's not worthy to called next-gen when the competition has much more innovative software and products to offer.

cryofax

@kane6911 @cryofax Please don't go into science. You're probably better suited to religion where you can make bold claims with no evidence and never have to back them up. You still haven't shown anything to back up the statements you made in the first post.

Its a console and It does one thing incredibly well "play games" that's what gamers want and 10 million gamers agree with me. No one cares about kinect or integrated tv nonsense sales have proved that. Microsoft know this now and have ditched the kinect and no longer talk about the tv tuner thing, guess what there taking a leaf out of sony's book and concentrating on the games, the thing that matters to gamers there main customers.

i_am_number_4
i_am_number_4

@kane6911 @i_am_number_4 @cryofax okay fair enough, its obvious that Microsoft and Nintendo have far more innovation than Sony at this point. Sony stopped caring about innovation a long time ago. In fact, Microsoft is like a Nintendo on Steroids because both share thesame philosophy of innovation first but this back fired with the xbox one and Nintendo has taken innovation too far that they no longer care about having next gen graphics.

Sony's problem is not lack of innovation in my opinion, it is an obsession with graphics and movie-esque themes. This is why i bought an xbox 360 when Halo 4 dropped and will move on to Xbox One when its time. The PS3 and PS4 are riddled with games wanting to be movies. Heavy rain, Killzone, Infamous, Gran Turismo, Uncharted and Last of Us. I loved Uncharted 2 but quit Uncharted 3 because gameplay was old and boring. Btw, the hype around Last of Us is undeserved because i am sure it was heavily influenced by the Walking dead. Same with Uncharted which was heavy influenced by Tomb Raider. Even God of War was influenced by Devil May Cry.

Games with Solid gameplay in Sony's portfolio like Socom were killed off infavour of linear/cutscene games.

Now Rise of the Tomb Raider is exclusive, i will have to give Lara another go since the PSOne when i eventually purchase the Xbox One. As for Nintendo, if only the graphics of their consoles could be even in the same league as Sony and Microsoft, i would get it ASAP.

blackace

@ima_flyguy They haven't ditched the Kinect. It's still being sold with the XB1 and they will be releasing it seperately in time for the holidays. Sony talked more about TV then Microsoft did at they E3. At the 2013 E3 Sony was still showing MOVE games in the works. Now they've seem to have completely abandoned it along with 3D games. lol!!
