Xbox One doesn't support 3D Blu-rays

Playback won't be supported for launch, though Microsoft is open to adding the feature down the road.

by

The Xbox One will not support 3D Blu-ray playback, at least not at launch, a Microsoft representative has confirmed with GameSpot sister site CNET.

However, it is possible that 3D Blu-ray playback could be added in the future, the representative said. The Xbox One is Microsoft's first console to feature a built-in Blu-ray player.

Meanwhile, the PlayStation 3 supports 3D games and 3D Blu-ray movies. As CNET points out, the PS4 will support the playback of 3D games, though none will be available at launch. The official PS4 FAQ makes no mention at all of support for the playback of 3D movies.

The Xbox One launches next Friday, November 22, for $500. GameSpot will have more coverage of the next-generation console leading up to release.

It takes a while for Xbox to get an update and then 3D Blu-ray playback is here.

I would imagine that if Sony neglected to mention whether the PlayStation 4 supports 3D video that it probably doesn't support it.  There's no way they wouldn't be trumpeting every feature advantage they have over the XBOX at this point in the race.

microsoft have to match the gaming standards at theis time.the ps3 supported this so technically you'd rather buy a ps3 than an xbox 360

Like the first thing someone will do with their xbox is pop in a 3d blu ray movie to watch.

I'm pretty sure Bill gates has nothing to do with Microsoft anymore? Didn't he sell it? or was that a dream?

3D isn't worth the money unless it's done right.

the news gets even worse for the xbox one lol...poor graphics display etc...after having four consoles that all broke down, and dealing with microsofts very poor customer service relations..and my one japanese launch day console that has never brokedown ,and still playing..its sony all the way..great customer services, even when the big hacking problem came..sony gave everyone loads of games and stuff..microsoft give you nothing for anything....so its ps4 for me,guaranteed quality everytime with sony....and for those that say "i dont like the look of it"..it plays games, its the games you play, regardless of how it looks, doesn't matter about the shape of the console lol

I do. I'm still getting an Xbox One, but it's kinda lame that the PS3 can play 3D movies and the Xbox One can't ...at least not at launch. >_

I have a 3D tv and love it and so I care but see unlike others I am not stupid enough to sell my PS3 or trade it in for next to nothing and instead will hold onto it and use it as my 3D media player and oh wow I still kept games for it too. :P

MP3 and CDs is a minor loss in comparison to Blu-ray for me personally.

i thought xbox one was a all in one entertainment system. I find it weird that the first ps3 can do 3d blu ray playback but a new xbox one can't. I like to watch some movies in 3D and play the odd game in 3D. I won't be buying either a ps4 or xbox one as each day more and more problems coming out about each of them.

I personally prefer the Xbox because i dislike the layout and shape of the PS controller. Sure, if i had the money id buy a PS4 as well, but for the moment, id rather feel comfortable playing games i enjoy, rather then feeling uncomfortable.

Good. 3D should grow up before it becomes popular. Right now its just a gimmick, and im sure anyone getting an Xbone would be glad not to pay any more for one.

I'm probably close to being the youngest person on this thread at 24 and I don't really see the point in all this bickering. Just get your respected systems and shut up about it already. Don't argue about which system you think is better, because the other side probably won't believe you anyways. Good day people.

Xbox One supports 1080p just like Sony's. But most of PS4 games are forced and have FPS (Frame per second) drops while XBox One doesn't. Some of Xbox One games that are 720 will be upscale to 1080.

Oh darn I was hoping I could take full advantage of 3D features on Xbox One. I guess I'll have to get a Wii U.

@David Evans Umm no. I have like 7 or 8 and I certainly don't have anywhere close to all of them. Obviously I already have a 3d bluray player though so I guess it doesn't matter if my One doesn't.
