XBLA gets shellshocked Wednesday

Ubisoft brings Konami's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game to Microsoft's downloadable game service this week.

Microsoft today announced the latest release in its Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays program, the 1989 coin-op beat-'em-up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Originally produced by Konami, the game is being offered on Live Arcade through an agreement with Ubisoft, the brand's current rights holder and publisher of its own line of movie-based TMNT games.

Developed by Digital Eclipse (the studio behind Live Arcade ports of Contra, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3), the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game will feature voice chat capability and online or offline cooperative multiplayer for up to four gamers.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set to go live on XBLA this Wednesday at 2 a.m. PDT and will be available for 400 Microsoft points ($5).

Can't wait to download this. I'm going to say up and download it at two o'clock in the morning!!!! I'm glad I live in Arizona. Now all we need is X-Men arcade game from Konami come on XBLA and would be in Heaven. Just think of a game where you can play a six players at the same time with your friends on XBLA. Sounds pretty sweet to me. Also Aliens vs. Predator Arcade game would be cool also.

I loved this game back in the arcades, but there really isn't enough content in this to spend 5 dollars on.

Man if only they'd release the other four player beat-em ups like X-Men, Captain America and the Avengers, and Captain Commando. I'd be in heaven!

Good now I can play the real arcade game legal at home and put the NES version back on it's shelf for good. The NES version served me well But it can't hold a candle to the real arcade machine. Turtles in time has a near arcade perfect version on snes and all the other turtles games i have already so i don't care.

There were 3 games in the late 80's and early 90's that basically redefined arcade games. Street Fighter 2 Virtua Racing and yes, of course, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (and don't say Mortal Kombat or Virtua Fighter, because we all know those wouldn't exist without Street Fighter 2) Unfortunately, while I have spent tons of money on this arcade game, I think this style of game got stale for me somewhere between X-Men and...whatever one came after that. Edit: And I guess NBA Jam gets honorable mention, but that game always seemed way more successful on consoles to me than it was in arcades. Maybe I just wasn't at arcades enough at the time....

well it does have turtles in time graphics. either way, im really excited for this game.

I can't believe this game is almost 20 years old. Makes me feel like an old man. I remember being a 9 year old at the arcade getting my @ss kicked by the Foot, now I get to do it again! I agree with everyone else in that the "Simpsons" game should be next. That, or "TMNT: Turtles in Time."

Even if it's not published by Ubisoft, Konami needs to hook up with the current licencees of their other classic arcade beat-em-ups. But that being said: WOO-****ING-HOO! I can't wait!

This will be the first XBLA game I download. This is more than worth it at $5. I think I put more time in to this game back in the day than maybe any other arcade game.

"I'd prefer to have TMNT2, but I'll settle for this." Dude, this IS TMN2: THE ARCADE GAME. It was called TMNT 2 on nes because there had already been a turtles game. (and, a crappy one at that) I can't wait till wednesday!
