Activision and WON.net announced Tuesday that they have signed an agreement to provide an online multiplayer source for upcoming Activision content.

WON.net software will be incorporated into nine Activision titles, including Interstate 82, Dark Reign II, Star Trek: Armada, and Vampire: The Masquerade, among others.

"We specifically wanted to work with Activision because of their deep product line and great brands," said Emmanuel Schalit, WON.net's president and Havas Interactive's senior vice president and chief strategy officer. "The tools and technologies we have developed will make their games more accessible and enjoyable to everyone who purchases a game."

"Activision's premier game slate will let WON.net deliver awesome online experiences to gamers worldwide," said Philippe Erwin, director of licensing for Activision. "Players will be able to seamlessly launch their online game directly from the game shell. Additionally, WON.net will be creating a dedicated Activision web site that will promote our latest product offerings and further establish Activision as a leading brand for online gaming."

The move is particularly interesting, as WON.net apparently does not want to be stuck with just providing an online multiplayer avenue for Sierra Studios games. The company wants to provide this for other titles as wellActivision, which relied on its own private multiplayer servers, can now rely on WON.net's large database of users, not to mention free up some resources of its own for other projects.
