Wolfenstein: The New Order will launch across the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC on May 20 in North America, Bethesda announced today. A release in Europe will follow on May 23. Preordering Wolfenstein: The New Order will get you into the upcoming Doom 4 (now just called Doom) beta. You can read more about that promotion in this separate story.

Wolfenstein: The New Order was previously scheduled to launch in fall 2013, but was delayed last summer because the game needed more polish. The game is a single-player affair and has no multiplayer whatsoever.

In development at Sweden-based MachineGames, Wolfenstein: The New Order is set during an alternate 1960s after the Nazi regime was victorious during World War II thanks to its use of advanced technology. The Nazis now rule the world, and it's up to you, as series hero B.J. Blazkowicz, to rise up against this power.

Bethesda also released a new trailer for Wolfenstein: The New Order today, which has a very Inglourious Basterds feel to it. The trailer introduces the game's locations, characters, and story, and ends with a terrifying and grisly encounter between Blazkowicz and a Nazi leader.

Be sure to watch the trailer all the way to the end...
