Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory coming soon

Activision tells us that the free stand-alone multiplayer game based on Return to Castle Wolfenstein will be released in the next 24 hours.

We've just heard from Activision that Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is expected to be released very soon, likely tonight or tomorrow.

Enemy Territory is unusual in a few ways: It includes a bunch of new multiplayer content and many substantial gameplay enhancements, it doesn't require the retail version of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and it's free. Developed by UK-based Splash Damage in cooperation with id Software, Enemy Territory was original conceived as the multiplayer side of a retail expansion pack that's since been canceled.

Late last month, Activision and id released a test version of Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory that provides a taste of the new gameplay style and a look at one of the new maps.

Stay tuned for more coverage of the game.
