Witcher dev opens new office

CD Projekt Red's studio in Krakow, Poland, opens; will support Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, and development on a "smaller" title.

by

The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red today announced that its new office in Krakow, Poland, is now officially open. The studio was first announced in June.

The Krakow office will support the development of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk 2077, and a "smaller" game, estimated to be 20 hours in length.

The studio will be staffed by 20 people and aims to create one of two "premium quality" games that CD Projekt Red plans to release in the future.

"A new studio, new people, and new energy--we're growing and we're extremely excited that we can tap into the potential that Krakow has to offer," CD Projekt Red head Adam Badowski said in statement. "We want to continue to make better and better RPGs and the new studio is another big step in that direction."

CD Projekt Red is headquartered in Warsaw, Poland, about 180 miles from Krakow. The company currently has two open positions for its new Krakow office, one for a concept artist and another for a senior environment artist.

If a lot of Polish people are as nice as CD Projekt Red, then I'll be glad to visit it someday. I think I'll go there to see for myself.

""smaller" game, estimated to be 20 hours in length." in these days it should be called "huge" game

Happy to see they are gonna release more offices, they really need the man power to work on all those wonderful titles.

I can't wait to feast my eyes on the behind closed doors demo that they've showed at E3 that will be available for the public (according to media sites) at the Gamescom convention.

nobody can claim their games lack polish

Nice to see a dev opening something instead of closing something.

Their games are already so good because they include so much Polish, so the "premium quality" description sounds odd. They're all premium quality to me and I'm eagerly awaiting Cyberpunk 2077 as well as the third Witcher.

Everything else in Witcher 3 seems great but i think CD projekt shud have waited a bit longer  till we had fully entered next gen. then i cud be wowed by their visuals too. other wise its still pretty much current gen...well at least in the graphics department.

It is fantastic that they are expanding.  They not only put out great games, if you read any interviews with their management they are so customer oriented that it is shocking.  In a time when Microsoft tried to force draconian DRM and customer abuse as a premium feature of XB1, it is refreshing to see a company say no, we will not treat 99% of our customers like criminals so that the 1% of pirates are inconvenienced.

Nowadays 20 hours is the maximum limit for almost all the companies. Call of Duty and Battlefiled single player campaigns won't even last for 6 hours. Even Assassins Creed games are not above 25 hours.

CD Projekt Red have done an amazing job with Witcher 2 which is a huge game. Witcher 3 will even bigger. They were doing an amazing job with less people and producing a real premium quality games.

I'm still more interested in Cyberpunk 2077 then Witcher 3. Don't get me wrong I'm super stoked for W3, and I expect great things from it, but I'm more excited to see what CD Projekt can do with a big Cyberpunk RPG. Cyberpunk is easily my favorite genre of fiction. Really couldn't think of a better developer to handle a project like that.

Not for nothing, but I am about as impressed with the graphics for Witcher 2 as I am with the first Assassin's Creed...but now, not when it was released in 2007. Back then it was something to look at.

@talkcasual

Are you being sarcastic or dumb?

Joke aside, their games are great enough for me to ignore that lack of just that..

@ffspyda You may try to deceive yourself, but PS4 and XBOX one will start as inferior to PCs people buy this year. During the E3 presentations of TW3 CD Projekt were using GTX680 so ... no you are not going to see this kind on graphics on next gen.

LordCrash88
LordCrash88

@ffspydaYou know that PC is lead platform for Witcher 3 and that PC is already more powerful than the next-gen consoles will be at release?

PC gaming has entered "next-gen"already a few months ago, just look at Crysis 3 on PC on maximum settings if you want an example for the power of PC gaming..... ;)

infernalism86

@ffspyda in other words, you think that the graphics that you saw in the E3 trailer, and in various screenshots released to the public are achievable on PS3 and X360? I...don't think so.

@Aphyosemion Sure but why did they say their new game was going to get on the Xbone when the DRM thing was still in place (and the console won't even come out in their home country)?

Not saying they aren't amazing to us the customers but I was just wondering.

@hadlee73 If a small game is 20 hours long, i wonder how long The witcher 3 will be.. 100 hours of gameplay perhaps? XD just thinking bout it makes me very happy

@mikemaj82  I don't know about that... The Witcher 2 blew me away in 2011, and it still looks gorgeous!  Though I may be biased because I love just about everything about that game.. not just the visuals.

@LordCrash88 @ffspyda Not to mention, that those environments are going to be highly interactive (moving grass and trees for example, as a result of leshen's influence), and the fact that...what we saw to this point, is a pre-alpha build. This is going to look better, than it already is. Ready your machines for 2014 ladies and gentlemen (and your saves from TW1 & TW2 members of the PC Master Race). I'm waiting with my upgrade till we get closer to a release of this game. I plan to buy a new rig just for this. I will of course play other games, but I wouldn't buy a new PC if not for TW3, which just feels like it's meant to be played on a PC, just like MGS games just feel right on PlayStation. Cheers from Poland. :]

@infernalism86 Cam on guys, go back and look at the full demo for Star wars 1313 and compare those graphics to the witcher 3 or even crysis...just be honest non of the cam close.

@Simplythebest12 I'm waiting for DA 3 as well though it doesn't have my Geralt. I liked DA:O a lot. Here's to two brilliant games.

@GreyArt @hadlee73 Lol, I think each playthrough of the Witcher 1 took 100 hours for me. At least it felt like that, in a good way. On the back of the box it says 80 hours, but I always take more time to complete the game than whatever number people say. I'm a completionist and like to take my time, really savoring the game, doing an anti-speed run, although not for the sake of simply proceeding slowly.

That's because The Witcher 2 still looks freaking amazing when compared to everything else on the market.

@infernalism86 Feeling that MGS is made to be played on the PS is just a feeling, while The Witcher being made for the PC is ... how it is. Runs smoother and looks better on the PC. Now if they made a PC and a PS version of MGS and that the PS version was more optimized then I'd agree with you. Or if the PS version runs better than the Xbox version. Until we get the chance to see performance comparisons, MGS isn't made to be played on any specific platform. Well not anymore.

infernalism86
infernalism86

@LordCrash88 @infernalism86 well, we just have to agree to disagree then. To me, MGS was always a PlayStation franchise, and the only place to play every canon MGS game to date is on Playstation 3 (and PSP with Portable Ops, excluding Twin Snakes, which was made by Silicon Knights). That being said, if the Legacy Collection was somehow ported to PC, and MGS V was released on PC as well (it is hinted, that it indeed will at some point)...I would bite.

I love PC gaming, always had. Yet, there are still a lot of games exclusive to the consoles, that I just HAVE to play, or I just can't wait for a much delayed PC version. Red Dead Redemption is a good example. :]

Then again, I would never play Diablo, or Crysis on a console, I would never seriously play TW2 on the Xbox, and there's still Starcraft on PC...

Usually, if there is a PC version, and you have an adequate machine, that one is the best to choose, a definitive version. Dark Souls excluded, but I still bought it on PC. :]

ffspyda
ffspyda

@Total_mischief @ffspyda ...Facepalm#....That is why i stated from the very beginning that CD Projekt should hav simply "waited"  till we had fully rolled into next gen.By then they wud hav had enuf time to  develop and compare their materials side by side (at least graphically)with other next gen engines. eg. Ureal 4

Total_mischief
Total_mischief

@ffspyda I'm not sure what you were expecting. The Witcher 3 looks better than The Witcher 2 maxed out on PC (which is already way ahead of what the 7th gen of consoles can run) and it's an open-world game. Does a next-gen game like 1313 look better ? Yes, it seemed Uncharted-like in it's level design meaning they can spend more resources on smaller things. Considering we haven't seen Unreal 4 in action in an actual game makes that point irrelevant. It's not because you've seen it in a Tech-Demo that you'll ever see it in a game.

@brainiac1988 not as good as 1313 or so far anythin running on Unreal 4 engine...thats all i'm sayin

@NeonNinja @pal_080 @mikemaj82 Witcher 2 is the landmarkt when it comes to medieval fantasy art and character design. It's not so much about the graphical fidelity (which is great as well) it's really more about the art aspect. This is something which never ages because it's an achievement in its own. :)
