Whore of the Orient gameplay footage emerges

First gameplay footage of Team Bondi's next-generation game revealed, showing third-person cover, melee combat, and gunplay.

Gameplay footage for L.A. Noire developer Team Bondi's next-generation action game Whore of the Orient has appeared online.

The minute-long video was acquired by Videogamer from a "trusted source" and shows off third-person cover mechanics, melee combat, and gunplay in a bustling city.

Check out the footage below.

Whore of the Orient puts players into 1936 Shanghai, the "most corrupt and decadent city on the planet," according to a since-deleted page on the Team Bondi website.

Team Bondi recently received $200,000 in funding from the Australian government to help finance the project.

After the release of L.A. Noire in 2011, KMM Interactive bought the assets and intellectual property rights to Team Bondi's work, including Whore of the Orient. A Warner Bros. logo appeared on the Team Bondi website, though the publisher has yet to give any information regarding its involvement with the game.

Whore of the Orient is reportedly being readied for a release in 2015, though it is unclear if the rumored layoffs at Team Bondi have affected this release window.

I enjoyed L.A. Noire, so I would like to see this get released. Hopefully it will.

does anyone know what the story line is? Possibly any features that will make gameplay combat different/unique.

In this pre-alpha state, it already looks better than Ride to Hell: Retribution.

Not bad for a very early build that still has close to two years of work to be done. Look forward to seeing final product.

I wouldn't have released this into the open if I were them. People don't understand what work in progress means and they stick to their first impression if they don't like it.

This said, I think the potential is definitely there, and these guys have earned my respect with L.A. Noire.

I am pretty sure thats just an example of what can the game look like.

Very similar to LA Noire which was good by the way.

Probably will be banned in loads of countries for that title alone. I really liked LA Noire, interested.

Looks like shit. I know it's nowhere near finished, with a 2015 release schedule. But it still plays like shit.

I hope this is early pre-alpha build. Because it looked pretty bland.

With a name like this, it will cause an uproar here in Australia. Funny...wait, no, I mean infuriatingly ironic.

The design looks uninspired. The town shown looks like the dirty Chinatown of a city in the U.S. The action shown is very generic. Maybe this clip isn't representative, but Team Bondi had to have had a certain level of confidence to release it. It'll just suck if it turns out to be another promising new IP gone bad.

I'm glad there's some news about this game. I thought it'd had been put on ice for some reason, like the name of the game, heh. Apart from that unusual, potentially provocative and therefore quite amusing name, the setting sounds interesting and I like that there's both gunplay and melee combat.

The movements look bit stilted, but it won't be released for a good long while which will give them ample time to fix that.

Idiots this is a leaked footage. There are 2 years till the release and the game looks this good already!

Looks similar to Sleeping Dogs. That's a good thing.

Still looks like a different feel though. Too bad about the name, that's going to be a hard one when I have to explain what kind of game I've been playing...

Since this game is partly subsidized by Australian tax dollars does that mean that I, as an Australian tax payer, can have a free copy?

This game isn't coming out for TWO YEARS. It's in a VERY early state of development. Ofcourse the animations, graphics every thing is going to be in a very basic state.

So, quite a long way before this one gets released, by the looks of it.

I heard from an inside source that this game has actually been cancelled.

this doesn't look that good, I hope this is just development footage.

@Vodoo it plays like shit? have you played it? no you havent so how do you know?you dont. your statement is a contradiction. Yes it looks a little stiff and not too appealing yet, but this is the very first video of a game thats still being built. Its not gona look like grand theft auto or whatever else. until you actually play this game in 2015, there is no possible way you can say it plays like shit.

@fazilchik there are no leaks. this is released by the dev to get some sort of reaction. wise up you!

@ponypimp Do you get free stuff from other projects subsidized by Australian tax dollars (hah, that'd be nice)? I'd think "no", which should answer your question.

@JRD1912 Does the term "work in progress" mean anything to you? It's still got another 2 years in development.

@LuckySavage Reminds me of a prostitute from Asia... no wait, I have no experience of prostitutes from Asia or other countries.

@jcopp72 It says the game will be ready in 2015, so you can safely say this is probably Alpha footage

JRD1912
JRD1912

@samremnant @JRD1912  Yea, it means dont show this awful footage for a game that is no where near ready.  Cuz it looks awful.  Even for a Alpha built or even pre Alpha that was one of the worse trailers I can think of in some time. LA Noir was not great by any means, but I think the last thing I wanted out of it was a re-skined game with more on foot chases.

samremnant
samremnant

@JRD1912 @samremnant Yeah, I think the purpose of this was more to show off the feel of the game more than as an actual gameplay demonstration.
