White Knight Chronicles questing on PSP in Japan

PS3 franchise heads to Sony's portable in all-new storyline set in Level 5's JRPG universe; due overseas in 2011.

by

Level 5's White Knight Chronicles made a considerable impression upon enthusiastic PlayStation 3 gamers following its debut at the 2006 Tokyo Game Show, largely due to its flashy visuals. However, reviewers were less effusive with praise when the game released in North America in February. Still, Level 5 is on track to release a sequel for the Japanese role-playing game in Japan next month, and the studio will also be bringing a new installment in the franchise to the PSP.

Shocking, but this big guy can be whittled down to fit in your pocket.

According to the most recent issue of Japan's Famitsu magazine (relayed by Andria Sang), the all-new White Knight Chronicles project will arrive for the PSP in 2011. The game will apparently not be a continuation of the current White Knight Chronicles story arc involving Leonard and the Dogma War, which is expected to conclude with the second PS3 installment.

Details on what gamers can expect from the handheld White Knight Chronicles are light, with Famitsu's teaser only indicating that it will tell "a story of your avatar and new allies." It will also apparently see players journey to "a new world."

Famitsu's report did not indicate whether White Knight Chronicles PSP would see release outside of Japan. Sony had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.

Pretty cool I might buy it if it comes to the u.s. but I just mainly want the second game.

@i_have_skills Don't be offended...by I think I love you just for telling me that. I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel then, if that's the case. I hope they bring the game to the West.

This review is pretty rough about this game. They make it sound like a really bad game.

White Knight Chronicles had a lot of potential IMO. The only thing that made it boring for me was its slow combat system, predictable story, and the fact that I can't use CPU controlled party members on offline quests. That totally destroyed my feelings for the game. If they make the combat system a bit more fast paced, and give us CPU controlled party members for the additional quests and not the story, I will buy it.

I tried to get into this game. All my RL friends play it fervently, but I just couldn't get into it. I got bored really fast. I'm not saying the game is bad because I probably didn't give it enough of a chance, but I wasn't having fun. A game has to grab me on the front end and give me a reason to want to keep playing, and WKC didn't do that for me. But since a version of it is coming out for PSP, I'll give that a look. I actually prefer gaming on a handheld to consoles these days. Maybe what I need is that portable freedom in order for me to enjoy this one. After all, I love the Monster Hunter games on PSP but I rarely sit down to play MHTri on Wii even though it's just as good and deep.

Holy crap, some of you guys have invested most of your lives in this game! Unfortunately missed it upon release in the UK, so might make up for it by getting this for PSP (needs a good JRPG here in the west). Here's hoping we get whhat we want :0)

Im at 1300+ hours....>:D lol. Its a great game, shame the american reviewers didnt review the online content. Such a under-rated game, and one of the most enjoyable and amazing games iv played in a long time (besides demons soul). Is one of japans higest sellers also.

I hope it gets released outside of Japan. I enjoyed White Knight Chronicles a lot and invested over 300 hours in it and still have a lot left to do.
