The new TV spot for the upcoming anime adaptation Ghost in the Shell has been released. The trailer is set to screen during the Super Bowl this weekend, but it's already online--check it out below:

Ghost in the Shell is directed by Rupert Sanders, who previously helmed the fantasy hit Snow White and the Huntsman. It stars Scarlett Johansson, Game of Thrones' Pilou Asbæk, Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, and Michael Pitt. A full trailer was released in November--check it out here.

Ghost in the Shell was one of the key anime films to break through to a western audience during the 1990s. It was created by Masamune Shirow, and originally published as a manga series in 1989.

In a recent interview with Collider, Johansson spoke about the challenges of starring in the remake of a such a popular anime franchise. "I think when you have a character that's so beloved, people have a lot of opinions," she said. "I try to kind of clean the slate and really follow my instincts with the character and hope that I give the character as much integrity as people expect.

"Bringing these pages to life is a kind of challenge. Because you can't rip it off the page, it's totally different. You're playing it as a--it's not really a person, but it's a human brain, it's someone who's having this life experience. Which is very different from just ripping stuff off from the manga."

In related news, the original Ghost in the Shell will be returning to theaters next week. The movie will come to 110 theaters throughout the US--the Japanese version with English subtitles will play on February 7, while the English dub will be available on February 8. Tickets are currently on sale through Funimation's website.

There will be a full round-up of all the Super Bowl trailers this Sunday on GameSpot.
