Watch Fake Viral News Video for Independence Day: Resurgence

These days it's not enough to have a couple of trailers before the release of a big movie--viral videos and inventive marketing are also a big part of the build up to a blockbuster. The upcoming Independence Day: Resurgence is the latest movie to get in on the act, with a fake news documentary that looks back on the apocalyptic events of 1996 and features star Jeff Goldblum. Resurgence sees Roland Emmerich in the director's chair once again, with Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, and Bill Pulman also returning to save the world from alien invaders.

In a recent interview with Slashfilm, Emmerich spoke about how the extra-terrestrial aggressors would differ from those in the first movie. "They're kind of nastier than the first ones," he revealed. "This time, they're CG. With the first one, it was kind of wiggling s**t, and we had little puppets.

"And now we have a company like WETA, who does the best creature work, working with us. So that's exciting to me."

Independence Day: Resurgence is set for a June 24, 2016 release. It also stars Maika Monroe, Liam Hemsworth, William Fichtner, and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
