Watch Dogs Goes to Bollywood

A new movie called 18.11 is blatantly copying Watch Dogs.

Bollywood has a history of imitating popular video game releases in its movies and promotional materials for those movies. Ek Tha Tiger, for example, bears more than a passing resemblance to Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series, and Velayutham is pretty much just Assassin’s Creed with awesome dancing.

As IndianVideoGamer notes (via Kotaku), those movies came out long after the games they resemble, but a new Bollywood movie, 18.11, is already copying Watch Dogs in its posters, as you can see in the image above.

If you’ll watch the trailer below you’ll notice that the actual movie doesn’t look much like Watch Dogs at all other than making reference to some “extraordinary software,” which evokes the game’s hacking themes.

Watch Dogs launched on Tuesday across Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC, with a Wii U version to follow. It quickly became Ubisoft's fastest-selling game of all time. For more on Watch Dogs, check out GameSpot's review and what other critics are saying.

I HATE musicals! Hollywood, bollywood, broadway, Disney, whoever! but does look like a good effort other than that.

The only chance for this movie to success is categorize it as comedy, I giggle 6 times when watching the trailer, gotta use the potential.

Bollywood is awesome. LOL

If you like campy flicks, check out some of Farah Khan's films. You will laugh your ass off (in a good way.) They are priceless.

I remember looking up foreign versions of Star Wars, Spiderman and Superman. They don't look at all like the original sources either, which makes them more like weird reimaginings than blatant copies, which gives them a certain kind of charm.

I hope they get sued by Ubisoft, this is shameless. I mean taking inspiration is one thing but this is downright plagiarism, even if the movie itself has nothing to do with the game, they are blatantly and shamelessly copying the wallpapers and box art of game.

I saw some other shots online and they even tried to steal camera angles, petty thieves... Why bother wasting money if they can't make something original, better donate to poor people.

See yourself

Eh, Hollywood and TV networks copy each other all the time. What's the big deal?

og88

@commando1992 Its one thing to copy and cite the inspirations/respect the original sources and another to blatantly steal and claim to be an original work.

To the moderator: I don't know if it's the automoderation script, you or what but it's quite common to see comments or replies disappear. There was not a single harsh word on them and it happens to many people in many articles. Since this has been happenning for some time already, could you look into it or something? It's quite discouraging. Thank you.

Bollywood is the bane of modern media. I hope it dies a torturous death for each and every innocent Indian's cash those filthy moronic producers and actors steal in the name of entertainment.

@kool_zed_speaks Bollywood, Hollywood, they're both just a different side of the same coin and they both work hard to get that coin with whatever means necessary.

og88
og88

@Hurvl @kool_zed_speaks At least the latter does or has to acknowledge their inspirations or risk a lawsuit. whereas the former cites it an "original production" to the general public, who mostly due to their socio-economic status would be oblivious to the real thing and  praise/celebrate/worship the plagiarists (mostly in the reverse order) and claim they are better than their offshore counterparts.

up until 1:46 in the above trailer, it's nothing like WatchDogs. He's wearing a hat and a bandanna on his face, besides that it's really different.

So we know allready where the oscar for the best movie this year will go, at least for its special effects ... This movie will probably be better than the game itself...
