Wargame Red Dragon gets first teaser trailer

Eugen Systems shows off the first trailer for its upcoming real-time strategy game, Wargame Red Dragon.

by

Publisher Focus Interactive and french developer Eugen Systems have released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming real-time strategy game, Wargame Red Dragon.

Wargame Red Dragon is the latest entry in the Wargame real-time strategy series, following 2013's Wargame: AirLand Battle and 2012's Wargame: European Escalation. It's being developed by Eugen Systems, which is also responsible for other real-time strategy games like R.U.S.E. and Act of War.

Wargame Red Dragon takes the same gameplay from previous Wargame titles, but for the first time shifts the location of the conflict from Europe to central Asia. It will add five new nations, including China and North Korea, and 450 new units, including naval and amphibian units, which take advantage of new maritime and river areas.

The game will feature a new single campaign and a multiplayer mode that will allow up to 20 players to battle each other simultaneously.

Our reviews of Wargame: AirLand Battle and Wargame: European Escalation were very positive, finding both games to be a good mix of the wargame and real-time strategy genres, so Red Dragon is definitely worth keeping an eye on when it's release later this year.

I'm really hoping for some strategic units or assets in this one,  Airland offered tactical air assets but I would love cruise missile strikes or calling in B-52, Tupolevs or Spectre gunships.

World In Conflict did it just fine so I don't see why not.

I got frustrated by AirLand Battle due to the lack of a proper tutorial. For a game with a fairly steep learning curve the tutorial was laughably brief. I had to look up on how to play the game on YouTube and in the end I just gave up.

Don't know why I'm not as excited as previously..... Maybe it's because I believe there's less improvements from the previous games?

Looking good. I still haven't find an rts that kept me as addicted as warcraft 3 yet, this might be it ?

Love Wargame: AirLand Battle this is definitely going to be a purchase for me. I've sunk 12 hours into AirLand Battle and i'm only now starting to get a grip on a FEW of the units. Its a great game with a lot of depth!

This is a rts series?! I might have looked into the previous wargames more if their trailers and pics on steam implied typical rts camera style gameplay. the trailer was cool, the close ups and camera angles are great at showing off the visuals but fail to tell new buyers how the game plays or how a player normally looks at the battlefield. the only part of that trailer that was rts imo was 0:18-0:20. and that single scene of the vehicles crossing the river with a rts camera viewpoint got me interested. the rest of the time I thought it was some air flight battle simulator.

Too bad no one is actually playing this game online. Finding multiplayer matches is a headache and the single player isn't very fun. Excellent strategy game, but there's just not enough people playing it.

@MN121MN I never played EE but this seems like a larger step up... they are massively improving the terrain so that it's not just flat lands in between hills and forests and towns, there will be dips and stuff in the ground that will make infantry much more viable instead of just hiding in forests in towns, and make open-field tank battle much more interesting instead of "who can shoot the furthest"

You are in the wrong site if you expect GameSpot to be impeccably up-to-date all the time on news about every imaginable game that you are interested in. ;)

@hampton2003 If you dont even bother to google some pics or check some review scores odds are this game isn't for you anyway.

@MasterTheHero Where are you from? There are like 800 games going at least all the time on the European servers.

@dmastorAge Of Empires 3 sucked balls and microsoft dont care about AOE anymore.

Age of empires 1 and 2 was the best games in the series.

@gufberg yes doing more research is good, but they need to do a better job at conveying what kind of gameplay this game has; that's what the steam store page is for. ive already watched some past wargame gameplay footage after my comment; and its way different from what steam pics and trailers indicate; these trailers and pic on steam are not geared toward rts fans. its like the people making them have Michael bay syndrome and thought showing off the game through a cinematic camera would get sales. during the steam winter sale I was curious because the game had an rts genre tag on it but none of the steam footage and pics backed it up; so I dismissed it. im going to do more research because I like rts games, but its a real shame on the surface this game might get passed up by a lot of people due to lack of transparency.

Yeah but why would you loon into the game as an RTS fan if you have no idea it's an RTS?
