Walker Leaves Eidos

Eidos drops Flying Nightmares 2, and flight sim designer leaves. Coincidence?

Comments

Bryan Walker, flight simulation designer and Gulf War veteran, has announced that he is leaving Eidos Interactive. At roughly the same time, it was confirmed that Eidos will no longer be publishing Flying Nightmares 2, one of Walker's pet projects for the past several years. The flight simulation would have offered duel choices between flying Marine Harriers and Cobra gunships in a campaign involving Cuba, with a strategic layer thrown in for good measure.

Whether or not the two items - Walker leaving and the effective cancellation of Flying Nightmares 2 - are related is a matter of speculation.

While the future looks dim for Flying Nightmares 2, there is still a chance it might be picked up by another publisher down the road. It also appears as though the developers for Team Apache, another Eidos flight simulation, are also looking for interested publishers.

The Flying Nightmares 2 team will be assigned to completing Confirmed Kill, the only flight simulation project outside of Joint Strike Fighter that Eidos is supporting. The online multiplayer flight simulation will be going into beta soon (reportedly March 13) and should retail later in the year.

In the meantime, Bryan Walker is moving on to greener pastures starting March 2. He has not officially announced where yet, but GameSpot News has learned that the company is one that is definitely flight simulation-oriented.
